Renewed: After Life

Ricky Gervais signs a multiyear deal with Netflix for new scripted & stand-up comedy.

After Life has been renewed for a third season with Netflix as Ricky Gervais signs a multiyear deal with the global streamer.

The deal, described as an 8 figure sum, will see Gervais create new scripted series as well as additional stand-up comedy specials.

“I was planning to retire soon and just wander around the house drunk until I die, but I’ve grown a bit tired of doing that during the lockdown, and also Netflix made me an offer I couldn’t refuse,” Gervais said.

The renewal for After Life is swift, having only launched Season 2 two weeks ago, to considerable acclaim.

The series also features Kerry Godliman, Tom Basden, Tony Way, David Bradley, Ashley Jensen, Mandeep Dhillon and Penelope Wilton.

  1. I discovered this show late last year and watched season 1 in a day as I was recovering from home after surgery and it was compelling viewing. A slightly different approach for season 2 but still very very good.

Also watched his stand up special which was also very very good.

  2. Not always a fan of Ricky Gervais, but after his recent comment about celebrities moaning about their pampered life in Corona lockdown, I thought I would have a look at After Life. I am glad that I did, it was a humanist view of ordinary people lives and many of the episodes brought a tear to my eye.

He seems to be a lighting rod for people who like or loath him in equal measure. I have see very few of his other shows, as he seems to delight in obnoxious characters that are hard to watch and engage with, but hats off for always pushing boundaries.
