The Block resumes filming

Producers put new safeguards in place to keep cast & crew safe.

Filming has resumed today on The Block after shutting down production in Brighton in late March.

During the past month construction work has continued but contestants, several of which were based interstate, were sent home as the pandemic took grip. It is understood the series will draw upon the emotion as drama when the series airs.

Production has now instigated additional safeguards to keep contestants and crew safe.

Executive Producer Julian Cress said in a statement, “The Block has implemented new standards across the entire production to ensure government guidelines, including social distancing, are followed and additional safety precautions are taken wherever possible. With the recommencement of filming The Block has also introduced increased health monitoring, changes to the way contestants select and purchase materials and safeguards that compartmentalise production.

“All contestants are elated to be returning to The Block to complete their renovations.”

The series is scheduled to air later this year.

  1. Will it be any way likely Survivor can film? I know it’s been said that it’s unlikely to film in Australia but many fans will be so disappointed in no civilian series for 2020. Hopefully at the very least it can still air in the beginning of 2020. But I am struggling to understand what TEN is going to air after Masterchef?

  2. TARA will for sure go ahead as it’s largely out doors and no audience. Entertainment programs with a large audience are the most problematic like Masked Singer and Voice.

  3. Im sure 9 programmers will be relieved – if they can negotiate the un-filmed half of The Voice around restrictions their prime time schedule should be fine for the rest of the year. With Big Brother and Plate of Origin in the can for 7 (filling their schedule for the second half of the year) I’m a bit concerned about what 10 will schedule after Masterchef (or after Bachelor in Paradise I guess). No Survivor, Masked Singer, Amazing Race or Bachelorette and only half a season of the Bachelor filmed. 9 has been really innovative to negotiate filming of The Block and you’d think 10 could/should try and do the same with some of their hit shows. Eg. for Survivor, they could film on an isolated beach (or island even) in Australia with self-isolation and coronavirus testing for all contestants and crew beforehand and even possibly a shorter filming length (reducing reward challenges which…

    1. BB and POO won’t fill all of Q2/3, but Seven has Farmer and I think Wife Swap. I’m anticipating Masked Singer to proceed, but we are yet to learn. Bachelor may resume later this year, unclear. If Aust. Survivor resumes it isn’t clear if it would make it to screen this year. Not optimistic for TARA, Bachelorette, but we know Junior MCA is now coming.

      1. Thanks for the detailed reply! It will be very interesting to see what goes ahead and what doesn’t. I think it should be the goal of every network to ensure they have prime time local reality shows for the rest of the year (because they’ll be competing against 9 who now have that).

      2. Wasn’t the plan for Amazing Race to race around Australia for this season – should – surely, they would be able to film by July.
