Documentary special Tsunamis: Facing a Global Threat screens tonight on SBS.

Using cutting edge science, 3D mapping of the Earth, and CGI reconstruction of past disasters, this captivating documentary unveils tsunamis’ complex mechanics in an attempt to predict the future ones.

Thanks to exclusive access in Palu, Indonesia – where a violent and very unusual tsunami recently occurred -, we follow the UN’s hand-picked scientific team of ‘tsunamis hunters’ on restricted areas and into their labs, to determine what exactly caused this tsunami, and why it was so deadly.
With the help of a team of experts (Sendai – Japan, Southern Europe and Pacific Northwest – USA), this international prime time investigation exposes their incredible work against the clock and immerses us into scenarios of a spectacular – yet threatening – future.

  1. What a weird title. Plural of tsunami is tsunami. Japanese do no have plurals. That’s why it’s Seven Samurai and not Seven Samurais.

    1. It’s a borrowed word in English, though, so Japanese grammatical rules don’t necessarily apply. For example, the plural of “pizza” in Italian is “pizze”, but no one would ever say that in English. Instead, we apply our own grammatical rules to the use of this borrowed word (ditto for focaccia and other words borrowed from Italian). The same applies to “tsunami”.
