Jim Wilson departs Seven

Sports presenter bows out of TV after 28 years and heads to radio.

Sports presenter Jim Wilson is leaving Seven after 28 years with the network, to become a new host of 2GB’s Drive program.

During that time he has covered  8 summer and winter Olympics, Tennis, AFL, League World Cup and Cricket broadcasts.

He has been with Seven News Sydney since 2008, including presenting alongside wife Chris Bath. As Sydney’s Sports Editor most recently presented sport on Fridays and Saturdays as well as Seven’s Afternoon News and the 11.30 national bulletin.

“To everyone at Seven, a huge thank you for your support and kind messages. I’ve been lucky to work alongside some of the best in our business. But this was an opportunity I simply couldn’t say no to.

“I love live broadcasting and telling people’s stories. Drive is fast and furious, breaking news, and its fluid. I will be firm, fair and listen to all sides – and we will have a laugh.”

In unrelated news Gruen’s Russel Howcroft is joining 3AW Breakfast from early August replacing long-running host John Burns.

    1. @OnTheInside, Mark Beretta was doing both at one point. I remember in 2004, he was the sports presenter on Sunrise and also read the sport on the 6pm news when Ian Ross was the main anchor. He is a versatile and very decent person. He is definitely underutilized.
