Luther movie: “It is happening!”

After being honoured with a BAFTA Special Awards last week Idris Elba later spoke to press about what’s next for Luther.
“I’ve maintained that I’d like to see [Luther] come to a film,” he told Digital Spy and other press after his win. “That’s what I think we’re headed towards, is a film. I’m looking forward to making that happen.”
He then confirmed: “It is happening!”
Elba also opened up about how the chance to move the franchise from TV to film will give him new ground to explore the character.
“With a film, the sky is the limit,” he said. “Obviously, you can be a little bit more bold in the storylines, maybe international, a little bit sort of up the scale. But John Luther is always going to be John Luther.”
Luther is currently screening 9:30pm Wednesdays on SBS.

Curious to see whether this will be a BBC/Apple joint production, being that Idris Elba recently signed on with Apple. More importantly though, time to give the series another binge watch!
