Masked Singer awaiting full test results to stage grand final

"It does prove just how vicious this virus," says host Osher Günsberg, as 10 show awaits a way forward.

The Masked Singer is awaiting test results of its team to ascertain how it can stage its grand final.

On the weekend several crew tested positive to COVID, shutting down before the final episode.

Host Osher Günsberg, currently in isolation in Melbourne, tells TV Tonight, “I guess basically what we’re trying to do is wait on all the test results and then work with the DHSS here in Victoria to work out how we can safely shoot the grand finale. I’m sure like any other business that has had this happen to, they go in with the Stranger Things suits and give it a deep clean and they figure out what’s the best way forward. So we are absolutely trying as hard as we can to make sure we can get a grand finale done.”

Günsberg says the Warner Bros. production had already gone to extraordinary lengths to keep its team safe, but still the virus emerged.

“No shared meal breaks, no shared spaces, everyone in masks. I can’t even tell you how the details of how tough it was. We had to prove to DHSS that we were able to make this thing safely. I’d say we were a great example of how you could do such a thing. But even so, it does prove just how vicious this virus, how gravely infectious it is.”

The Age reports host Gunsberg and judges Dave Hughes and and Jackie O have all tested negative to coronavirus. Judges Dannii Minogue and Urzila Carlson are also reportedly negative, but yet to be confirmed by their agents or producers.

When Günsberg completes the show and returns to Sydney, he must then undergo a further two weeks of isolation. But he assured that filming on The Bachelorette, also made by Warner Bros., has not entailed another host in his place.

“No, there’s nobody else in my place. But we have figured out ways to make The Bachelorette.

He added, “Before The Bachelor. I was unemployed. It wasn’t always that way and it won’t always be that way. But right now I’m grateful to be of service.”

Update: Osher Gunsberg and judges Dave Hughes, Jackie O, Dannii Minogue and Urzila Carlson have all tested negative to coronavirus.

  1. That might be the case if there is just one person testing positive, there is every chance they were not infectious at work. The masked singer is much more than that. There is clearly widespread transmission in the workplace. If that happens in a meat processing place, retail warehouse or aged care, the entire workforce at the facility has to isolate for 14 days.

  2. That the thing with any productions I believe that they have bubbles in each production. I am just using common sense that people like Osher and the judges would not need to be in close contact with any of the performers let alone the dancers.

  3. they are talking as if they can resume filming once/if the tests came back negative. In any other workplace where transmission of the virus occurs, everyone is assumed a close contact and has to isolate for 14 days regardless of whether they are negative or not. It would be pretty infuriating if they were allowed to continue and take heavy risks while the rest of Melbourne is forced to make huge sacrifices, especially as the rest of Vic is doing well and driving the numbers down.

    1. That’s not true. I’m in the healthcare industry and if one of my staff tested positive we would work out who was in close contact, not everyone would be, then they’d have a test and be isolated for 24 hours then if negative return to work. Only if they then showed symptoms would they be off for 2 weeks .
