John Slattery stars in a thriller that centres around how technology is invading our lives.

New US drama neXt starring John Slattery will screen same day as the US in early October.

The thriller from Manny Coto (24: Legacy) centres around the emergence of a deadly, rogue artificial intelligence that combines pulse-pounding action with a layered examination of how technology is invading our lives and transforming us in ways we don’t yet understand.

Slattery (Mad Men) stars as a Silicon Valley pioneer, who discovers that one of his own creations – a powerful A.I. – might spell global catastrophe, and teams up with a cybercrime agent (Fernanda Andrade) to fight a villain unlike anything we’ve ever seen – one whose greatest weapon against us is ourselves.

The series also stars Michael Mosley (Ozark), Jason Butler Harner (Ozark), Eve Harlow (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Aaron Moten (Mozart in the Jungle), Gerardo Celasco (How to Get Away with Murder), Elizabeth Cappucino (Jessica Jones) and Evan Whitten (The Resident).

Slattery told ET, “The most interesting part of it is that everybody has these devices – we have computers, we have laptops, we have iPads, we have phones, we have these supercomputers in our possession at all times.

“And they are listening, and they are watching, and they are recording information, and they are learning about you.” This series asks the question, ‘What if this artificial intelligence gets into these devices that we’re so reliant on, and how easy [would it be] for it to do what it wants?’”

Wednesday, October 7 at 9.00pm on FOX One.
