Blindfolds & spitting cobras: Rhonda spills on I’m a Celebrity.

I'm a Celebrity's Rhonda Burchmore reveals show secrets in a new online video.

Fans of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here may want to check out a video from Rhonda Burchmore, in which she divulges on the show’s behind the scenes production.

Burchmore, who placed third in the 2020 series, reveals she was asked 3 times to appear on the show before she finally agreed. The pre-production stage entailed “hundreds of questions” about her fears, loves and more. There were thorough medical checks in Australia (and another before arriving in camp).

Publicity shots taken in Sydney were arranged like a “stealth operation”, keeping celebrities separated in the building to avoid seeing one another. Celebs were also sent to South Africa on different airlines and routes to keep paparazzi at bay.

Rhonda reveals she lost a crown during the flight over and producers had to scramble to find a dentist before she went into camp. Yikes.

She also mentions a very lonely New Year’s Eve in South Africa, but enthusiasm lifted when she entered camp.

Answering some fan questions, she revealed more on the day to day aspects of the show, confirming producers were “1-2 km” away, lots of mosquitos in camp and the risk of malaria, vitamin supplements, and the joys of waking up with “baboon pee” on her lips.

Battling through the Tucker Trials and going “all Linda Blair” just to consume the African specialties, she hated getting back into a transport car to camp, with the stench of vomit still on her.

“I used to beg for something to take the taste away,” she said, but producers wanted the authentic reactions when she walked into camp.

Driving to challenges also saw cast blindfolded, once to the mountain-top “Dreadmill” at 2 hours off road. It was the worst challenge she faced.. with a looming storm.

“I thought I was gonna die!” she says of the skyhigh test. She learned on the trek home, the Dreadmill had only been constructed the day before by the challenge supervisor nicknamed ‘Risky.’

One of the most startling revelations was the discovery of a deadly Mozambique spitting cobra near the camp waterfall. All cast were told to evacuate, with locals later discovering a nest of them near the waterfall. Double yikes.

Singing was banned in camp due to copyright, but she knew that Aba Daba Honeymoon, written prior to 1920 was out of copyright and perfect for her tap dancing shows.

Her favourite cast mates were Erin Barnett, Myf Warhurst, but there are special mentions for Dale Thomas, Billy Brownless and Ryan Gallagher… Perez Hilton is noted for disrupting the camp harmony.

Burchmore does not rule out a return if ever an “All Stars” version is mounted, and admits, “Compared to what we’ve been experiencing in the last six months, take me back to the jungle in a heartbeat.”

  1. I’d love to see her back in the jungle if she ever could return! If she turns up in a future season, I could definitely see her winning (especially with the effort that she put into tucker trials…)
