AACTA unveils Audience Choice Awards shortlist

This year audiences can vote for the best TV & Film from across the decade.

The Australian Academy of Cinema Arts has announced details of its AACTA Audience Choice Awards initiative.

With COVID restrictions placing limitations on this year’s AACTA Awards, organisers have added an opportunity for audiences to cast their vote on Australian screen achievements across the decade.

AACTA CEO Damian Trewhella, said “AACTA is celebrating its 10th year and with COVID-19 restrictions to navigate 2020 has presented us with an opportune time to take a look back on all we have achieved locally and overseas across the last decade.

“Our homegrown stars have prolific careers and entertain billions across the globe. Our local screen industry grows from strength to strength with Australian stories across multiple genres entertaining and informing millions at home every week. The AACTA Audience Choice Awards is the perfect initiative to engage with those watching so they can have their say on what they think the highlights of the last 10 years are.”

Awards Categories and Shortlists have been determined by a panel of screen professionals, producers and critics via a selection criteria that included social and cultural impact, popularity, ratings, diversity, and mix of broadcasters.

Voting opens today via www.aacta.org and will close next Sunday 11 October.

  1. I like the idea of these awards being based on the last decade. It’s something different. Not much has aired in the last year.

It is also AACTA’s 10th awards ceremony (from being moved away from the AFI Awards).
