Filming underway on Amazing Grace

Exclusive: Nine's 2021 drama starring Kate Jenkinson is now filming in Sydney.

EXCLUSIVE: Nine’s new drama Amazing Grace began filming in Sydney this week.

The series from Playmaker Media stars Kate Jenkinson (Doctor Doctor, Wentworth, Offspring) as midwife Grace, working in an unconventional birth centre attached to a major city hospital. But her work / life balance is about to get even more chaotic when a new arrival at the birth centre changes her life forever.

Nine’s Head of Drama Andy Ryan tells TV Tonight the birth centre acts as a strong story engine in the new series.

“It’s a show about women and childbirth and midwives and their relationship with that whole process, and their personal lives. There’s some great reveals in Episode One, which I want to keep close to my chest.

“Suffice to say, Grace’s world is going to be turned upside down in Episode One that’s going to force her to reassess her work and personal relationships as well.”

The cast also features Sigrid Thornton (Seachange, Wentworth), Catherine Van Davies (Hungry Ghosts, The Letdown, True Story with Hamish & Andy), Alexandra Jensen (Frayed, My Life is Murder, The Letdown) and Kat Hoyos (Here Come the Habibs!).

Writers include Jonathan Gavin (Offspring), Ainslie Clouston (Playing For Keeps), writer and executive producer Sarah Smith (Love Child), set-up director and co-executive producer Shawn Seet (Love Child, Reckoning, Hungry Ghosts), producer Diane Haddon (The Commons, Reckoning, The Code) and executive producers David Maher and David Taylor (Love Child, Bloom, The Commons), plus  Andy Ryan.

More cast are to be announced imminently, and the series will air in 2021.
