Livinia Nixon, David Campbell to host Carols by Candlelight

Livinia Nixon will co-host Carols this year alongside David Campbell.

Livinia Nixon will co-host Carols by Candlelight for the first time this year, making her debut alongside David Campbell.

Vision Australia has announced there will be no crowd in attendance this year.

Performers this year include SBS presenter and opera singer Silvia Colloca alongside tenor Michael Leonardi, The Voice winner Chris Sebastian, and Dami Im.

Returning are the ‘Carols family’ Anthony Callea, Tim Campbell, Marina Prior, Silvie Paladino, David Hobson and Denis Walter, along with musical director John Foreman, choirmaster Doug Heywood, and of course Santa. More performers will be announced in the coming weeks.

Livinia Nixon said: “I am thrilled to be involved in my first Carols by Candlelight alongside David, in what has truly been a year like no other. There has been so much hardship and struggle, and to quote one of my favourite carols; “We need a little Christmas”. I’m hoping we can help people focus on the joy of Christmas and what we have to be thankful for.

“With incredible performers on a spectacular night I hope we can also raise some much-needed money to support children and families who are blind or have low vision.”

David Campbell said: “I always love this time of year. I think this year, more than ever, we all need to celebrate the festive season with joy, with loved ones and with carols. It will be different not seeing the crowd holding candles up in the air, or the kids singing along, but this Christmas Eve will be as magical as ever. And remember, Santa Claus and his reindeers have special permission to travel to every country in the world to spread the Christmas cheer.”

In a hard year when so many friends and families have been kept apart, it is time to unite for the 83rd staging of Vision Australia’s wonderful Christmas celebration. But Carols in 2020 will be a little different. While still coming live from the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne, there will be no audience in attendance and families are encouraged to share in the Christmas spirit by watching from home.

Carols by Candlelight is Vision Australia’s biggest fundraiser event of the year, with funds raised on the night going directly towards supporting more than 25,500 people who are blind or have low vision. You can donate here: https://www.visionaustralia.org/donate

  1. This year will have zero attendance at SMMB, despite the easing of restrictions. I wonder if 9 use like fake applause around? This year, 9 used fake applause for Hot Seat & NRL.

    1. Livinia was great at presenting Temptation (Sale of the Century) with Ed Phillips. I’ll either put the TV on mute , fast forward or go to the bathroom during Chris’ performance. He shouldn’t have won The Voice not with his brother Guy being a judge.

  2. Livinia is the perfect choice to co host. She’s used to live TV and can ad lib with the best of them!
Christmas is definitely a time for traditions, reflection and nostalgia. Personally I think they’re making a mistake not including Rhonda Burchmore with that line up and will be a bit of a PR disaster. She’ll be fun, upbeat and have showbiz oozing – something we definitely need this year! She lives just up the road from the Myer Music Bowl, so not too late to let her put on a lovely frock and nip down to the Bowl for a song or two. I think it would put a smile on lots of peoples faces watching at home.

  3. Glad to see Livinia got the job of hosting! Great news! I also find it remarkable that there’s no crowd in attendance, despite the Boxing Day Test being allowed to have 25,000 per day, despite it being held two days later, but I won’t get into that here…
