Returning: The Great British Bake Off

Season 11 of cooking contest features new judge, comedian Matt Lucas.

Season 11 of The Great British Bake Off begins on LifeStyle Food later this month.

The latest hit season sees Matt Lucas join judges Paul Hollywood, Prue Leith and Noel Fielding.

“I have really enjoyed this series and have been really impressed by the diligence, skill and the stamina of the bakers, and their inventions and I have been really inspired by them. I have enjoyed eating their cakes. I don’t have anything to compare it to being in the tent. I will say this, when everyone made their jelly cakes that was the moment, I felt that I was on The Great British Bake Off,” Matt Lucas said.

This screened in the UK in September.

The Great British Bake Off is the ultimate baking battle where passionate amateur baking fans compete to be crowned the UK’s Best Amateur Baker. This latest season saw production make changes due to COVID, with the twelve bakers entering a bubble for seven weeks in order to make the competition happen. Over the course of 10 episodes, the series follows the trials and tribulations of the competitors, young and old, from every background and every corner of Britain, as they attempt to prove their baking prowess. Each week the bakers tackle a different baking skill, which become progressively more difficult as the competition unfolds.

The Great British Bake Off has enjoyed sweet success over the past ten seasons, but it was the latest season which really outcooked the competition. The series took the UK by storm with a record breaking consolidated 10.8million viewers tuning in for the series launch making it the biggest Channel 4 broadcast since 1985 and the final which drew in 9.2 million viewers and was the highest rated show on Channel 4 in 18 years.

  1. LifeStyle really have lost their taste for Bake Off. Each year we never see this fast-tracked, meanwhile the US now get it on Netflix within 24hrs. Then LifeStyle don’t bother renewing the show for further seasons.

    1. I know, and it’s getting ridiculous.

David — do you know if this includes ‘An Extra Slice’ like previous years? Also, any inside word with Bake-off AU? Last I heard about it was those (dreadful) rumours of it moving to Ch 7?
