Why Lego Masters was a lockdown escape

"It seemed to be what people were seeking out, especially in April," Lego Masters producers recall.

Lego Masters may have been impacted by the 2020 lockdown in its post-production, but according to executive producer David McDonald, it proved to be the perfect escape for viewers.

“Series 2 was post-produced all through COVID. We did it all remotely. We had one screening of Ep 1 (for Nine execs) and then it hit,” he tells TV Tonight.

“I think we were all sent home at the end of March or something. Then the screenings all changed and everything was done remotely.

“But it seemed to be what people were seeking out, especially in April. They just wanted something to take their mind off (COVID). I don’t know if nasty reality would have played at that time. Or even Drama that was too heavy.

“Later in the year, we’d rather watch a girl play Chess in the 1960s, as it turns out!”

Lego Masters returns to Nine at 7:30pm tonight.
