Before there was RuPaul’s Drag Race: Down Under there was I Will Survive on 10.
Hosted by Hugh Sheridan the talent quest in 2012 springboarded from the hit Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, with director Stephan Elliott as a judge.
It screened for one season at a time when 10 was struggling to get hits on air. Alas if they had shown some the behind the scenes footage it may have rated higher…
Dance instructor Michael Snell won the show and a whopping $250,000 prize.

This show paid its winner $250,000 but RuPaul’s Drag Race Australia is paying only $30,000?!
Oh, I loved this show! The ratings were considered poor so they panicked and hacked it apart and shortened the episodes mid-airing, as I recall. I also thought Tom Sharah should have won.
I enjoyed this show too but it was so weird to see Nathan Foley do drag and sing adult songs after watching him everyday on Hi-5 growing up.
It was an odd format and the wrong guy won in the final – sorry Michael but Tom deserved it.
I loved it. Hugh Sheridan was a good host too.
I remember this from when I was younger It was definitely weird but I guess would be ok for today
I remember this from when I was younger It was definitely a show before it’s time and when ten was
I enjoyed this.
I enjoyed it. A little tweaking needed maybe, but this felt to me like a show before it’s time and suffered from 10 sending it’s younger audience to Eleven
I remember this and thought it was pretty good. Certainly very different to everything else on TV at the time. It was quite brave which is partly why I gave it a go.
