This story follows the adventures of a new widow, Sofia (Natália Lage), a housewife who sees her perfect life fall apart after her husband’s sudden death and the discovery that she has inherited a pornographic film production company called SofiX. The widow is forced to take over her husband’s business, but decides to make radical changes, including making films that she considers to be in good taste.

An Ordinary Woman is a timely and fascinating look into life in contemporary Russia. Season two continues to follow the captivating story of Marina (Anna Mikhalkova) – a seemingly ordinary woman based in Moscow, Russia. In the first season, a pregnant, middle-age Marina had to face a series of challenges associated with running an illegal business – she secretly manages an underground brothel and one of her ‘girls’ was killed. In this series, Marina finds herself under the pressure of gangsters and her marriage is hanging by the thread, while criminal police investigator Vera becomes closer to solving the murder case.

Six riot police officers carry out an eviction in downtown Madrid that goes horribly wrong, and a man is killed. An Internal Affairs team is put in charge of investigating the facts and the six riot policemen are accused of reckless homicide. The officers try to find a way out of the situation on their own, which ends up ripping them apart and making their situation even more complex. The only woman on the Internal Affairs group, Laia (Vicky Luengo), becomes obsessed with the case and ends up discovering that behind the botched eviction is a corrupt real- estate network that reaches up to the highest circles. Laia and the riot police become unlikely colleagues who together will risk it all to uncover a criminal conspiracy perpetrated in Madrid for many years.

  1. I’m pleased to see An Ordinary Woman return, I enjoyed season one better than I thought, probably because it combined Russian sardonic stoicism with American production values, it’s not surprising Cineflix grabbed the distribution rights.

  2. The Brazilian ‘Hard’ is a remake of the long running French show of the same title (in English) that’s been on SBS a number of times now.

  3. Where’s S2 of ‘Why Women Kill’? It premieres June 3rd in the U.S…. I hope SBS fasttrack it. Or has it shifted to the new Paramount+ service that’s coming?
