The Project may not return studio audiences

Crowds visiting 10 show may be a thing of the past.

The pandemic has affected different shows in different ways, but for 10’s The Project it may well have signalled the end of studio audiences for good.

But on the other hand, has it really impacted on the show? Arguably, not too much….

The Project is in no hurry to resume studio audiences having been without for over a year.

A 10 spokesperson tells TV Tonight, “There are no set plans to bring the audience back at the moment, but we are open to the possibility down the track.”

While Have You Been Paying Attention? bounces off a live crowd for its comedy, at The Project it’s less-essential. There is also the question of trying to rustle up a crowd 5 times a week, as the show has often advertised for audiences in Melbourne.

There’s even a modest saving without a warm-up man, I presume…sorry ’bout that!

  1. I watched an old recording of the project a few weeks ago that was 2-3 years old with a live audience. It was great. Had a fun vibe. And the presenters felt more confident. So much more entertaining So much better than it is currently. So yes please bring audience back.

  2. I don’t understand the hate towards The Project! Every article I read on any platform has the haters calling for it to be axed! If you don’t like a show, why comment? Why should a show that others like have to be cancelled just because you don’t like it? I really don’t understand this mentality and it is absolutely what is wrong with society at the moment!!

      1. Exactly! There is a little thing called a remote control! We love The Project in our house – I’ve definitely voted for it in your surveys David. I just read so much hate for it (and sadly, for Waleed mainly) but it makes no sense to me why people comment on a show they don’t like or follow a page of a show they don’t like 🤷🏻‍♀️

        1. Some people actually want to like a show and want to like it even more. And there are things that people find frustrating and hence make a comment. I am gobsmaked sometimes how left leaning the show is when it should be more central to maximise the number of viewer and ratings. (government announces half a billion dollar investment in Green climate freindly technology and they did not even mention it…but they did have a negative comment from the PM from that press conference about Brittany Higgins) And they call themselves a news show.

  3. Nooooooo… hope that’s false news… I’ve been going to the show for years… Live broadcast, not recorded.. Hope they will change their minds!!!

    1. Same,
Hope 10 are listening, bring 10 news at 530pm, 630pm project with a new layout, no comic presenter, more news on the nose reporting, with a new panel news show with a comic uplook at 1030pm?

  4. I think a studio audience is not noticeable much as a viewer but i think it would give the hosts more of a buzz and they would lift their game. To me Waleed is looking a little bored with it all now. His interview with Anthony Albenese the other night was exceptional but i think he needs more of this. Would love to see him given a Sunday morning political interview show. Remember Laurie Oakes on Sunday.

  5. I have been racking my brain to try and figure out why the Project is lacking. I find Claire Hooper and Kate Langbroek as funny as a dead fish. I like Meshel Laurie, Kitty and Tommy and can put up with Pete. Wahleed is as clever and informative as ever. Maybe its not having a studio audience, but the show is not as good as it has been. What do you think?

  6. I say take it to the next step…punt the Project and come up with a better format..
Or go back to a weekly panel show..uhh lets say “The Panel”….that was world famous and bonza hosts…

  7. I’m glad I got to be in the studio audience, it was fun experience cos the studio experience is way different to TV, but I have to agree that as a TV viewer, having an audience doesn’t really make much difference. It was mainly for the laughter but they can laugh at themselves, haha.

  8. I’d like to see an audience back though…without them, I’ve just found the show less enjoyable as I’ve watched as many jokes fell on deaf ears and the audience gives the show its character – Project used to market as the only news show with a live studio audience, not anymore.

  9. I’ve long wondered why a news panel show needs a studio audience. The odd comic side story isn’t enough to justify one, nor just having applause in and out of advertising breaks.

    1. Graham Kennedy’s News Show started without an audience and the ratings were low and the show flat. They bought in an audience and the ratings soared while the hosts bounced off the audience bring the show to life.
The Panel could also use an audience to add life.
