Therese Lum became a shock elimination from MasterChef Australia last night, sent home after a punishing dessert challenge -with her Immunity pin intact.
Therese becomes only the third contestant in the show’s history to be sent home without using an Immunity pin, following from Loki Madireddi (Season 10) and Dani Venn (Season 12).
This year she even had a new advantage of being able to play the pin at any time during a challenge. Fellow contestants were yelling from the gantry to use the pin, but Therese hesitated in the challenge set by chocolatier Kirsten Tibballs. Even the judges repeatedly asked whether she wanted to play her pin.
Against just three other contestants, Therese unfortunately served up flawed dishes. There was a stunned silence when it was announced she had been eliminated from the MasterChef kitchen.

So if she did use it would Dan have gone home on a technicality because he didn’t glaze his cake. It would have been hard to eliminate one of them because the other 3 did so well.
But yeah she should have used her pin, I mean she made a mistake in every element.
Does she keep it forever or give it back at the end of taping.
I knew somebody would ask, so I checked. “As she was leaving Therese decided to hand back her pin,” -10.
I thought for sure she would use it in the last few seconds
“A fool and [her immunity pin] are soon parted.” 😛
I like the added element of being able to use the pin at any point during the cook. Shocked also that she didn’t use it. Very good episode though!
She appeared to be a very self assured young lady- perhaps too much so !
do you mean over confident? or even arrogant? or maybe misplaced confidence. She will learn from this
Too cocky for her own good plus she underestimated the other contestants abilities.
