Aussies blitz 2021 Rockie Awards

Bluey, Love on the Spectrum, First Day and Filthy Rich & Homeless all win at prestigious TV awards in Banff.

Australian productions on ABC and SBS have bagged a bumper crop of wins at the prestigious Banff Rockie Awards with wins for Bluey, Love on the Spectrum, First Day and Filthy Rich & Homeless.

All were winners in their respective categories.

Bluey won Best Animation: Preschool, Love on the Spectrum won Best Lifestyle, Filthy, Rich & Homeless won Best Docuseries and First Day won best Live Action: Children.

Scripted wins went to I May Destroy You, The Flight Attendant, Staged and Killing Eve.

Daley Pearson from Ludo Studios told TV Tonight, “Everything  you see in Bluey was created by a team of artists under one roof in Brisbane.  We’re all so proud of Joe and the team of artists at Ludo who made Bluey by board, design and idea by hand for many years.”

Darren Dale from Blackfella Films said of Filthy, Rich & Homeless, “We are so thrilled to have woken up to winning the Best Docuseries award at the Rockies. The series has shone a light on Homelessness in Australia, and it has increased awareness of this growing problem, and really does show that SBS champions issues which are critical to our deeper understanding of Australia.”

Karina Holden of Northern Pictures said of Love on the Spectrum, “We’re thrilled to have the international broadcast judges of the Rockies acknowledge our series. As a team we feel encouraged to know our work has found an audience both in Australia and globally on Netflix. When we started development on the idea with the assistance of Screen Australia, we had a sense the show would travel far and wide. To have been supported by ABC Television with our original concept and to have had now a second series winning audience and critics hearts and minds, it’s incredibly rewarding for myself, Cian O’Clery (Director/Series Producer) and Jenni Wilks (Supervising Producer). But of course, biggest thanks goes to our cast who shared their stories so generously. This win is for them.”

Julie Kalceff from Epic Films added, “We are thrilled that First Day has been recognised at the Rockies! This is testament to how hard the whole cast and crew worked on the series. Ahead of Series 2 going into production next month, it’s great to see the show continue to resonate with audiences around the world.”

Michael Carrington, ABC Director Entertainment & Specialist, said: “Great Australian stories are a hit with audiences the world over. I am particularly heartened by the diversity of the ABC’s Rockie Award winners, covering everything from an animated family of dogs to a young girl overcoming the challenges to be herself and adults on the autism spectrum looking for someone to love. Congratulations to the ABC teams and our production partners for leading the way for Australian content on the world stage.”
