Michael Theo’s favourite (and least favourite) moments filming Austin

"The funniest thing that happened on set was Ben Miller's outburst at the Old Parliament house in Canberra."

Love on the Spectrum‘s Michael Theo makes his acting debut in new ABC comedy Austin this Sunday.

In this excerpt from the press kit he recalls his favourite (and least favourite) moments filming the comedy by Northern Pictures.

“I would say that, the funniest thing that happened on set was Ben Miller’s outburst at the Old Parliament house in Canberra which I found to be hilarious and I cracked up in laughter. I couldn’t help it which I acknowledged,” Theo noted.

“My favourite memories would be the time when I hosted a potluck dinner at the apartment I was staying in. The people attending were Ben, Sally, Gia, Roy and also two surprise guests who were my parents. That was a wonderful night. There were other times I got together with the cast and crew offset. They were all blasts! These all happened in Canberra and England.

“There was one particular memory of our time in Canberra. Sally and I went for a power walk along Lake Burley Griffin. We intended to walk the entire lake but learnt the hard way that it takes 7 hours to do so. So Sally called an Uber to get us. That was an interesting day.

“I have so many fond memories of working on Austin. There is more than I can remember or count. However, one of my least favourite memories of working in England was how cold it was there. Especially the first day of shooting in England. That was the day I learnt bitter cold weather.

“At the end of shooting in Canberra and in England, I did find it tough to depart from everyone due to the bonds I made with the cast and crew.”

Austin premieres 8pm Sunday on ABC.

    1. I personally think Michael being paired up with two very likeable autistic females (Amanda, then Heather) on LOTS:AU was at least part of the reason why he was so popular on that show.

You’d hope the producers of Austin realised that and have possibly incorporated a neurodiverse love interest for Mike’s character somewhere in the storyline of Austin.
