Oops. Nazeem Hussain is still not Waleed Aly…

ABC threw in a gag about Nazeem Hussain not being Waleed Aly, but it was no laughing matter in TV guides.

ABC’s pre-recorded special Australia Talks last night threw in a joke about Nazeem Hussain being “100% not Waleed Aly” but they needn’t have bothered.

As reader Bourkie Boy noted, TV guides did just that anyway.

Print editions by News Corp., Nine and TV Week guides incorrectly listed Waleed Aly as co-hosting with Annabel Crabb -both presented the earlier 2019 special.

However to be erroneous in more than one outlet suggests the information from suppliers Pagemasters was probably the source, rather than the publications themselves. It isn’t clear if ABC provided incorrect copy at any stage in production (TV Guide to TV Tonight was correct).

Nazeem Hussain has been the subject of incorrect Aly-mistaken identities, in 2014 with an accompanying photo to a story, ‘Waleed Aly joins The Project‘ and in 2015 when TV Week carried his photo also captioned as Aly.

Both appeared on SBS panel show Salam Cafe in 2008. Do not adjust your set.

  1. Sorry I just think Annabel Crabb has the self satisfied look of someone constantly delighted by their own cleverness …so I was out before I was in .

  2. I note that Australia Talks rated better than Four Corners did two weeks ago. Although well down on last week’s Four Corners (which was a one-off)

  3. I wonder if anybody watched the entire episode. I happened to find it while channel flicking and watched a segment between crows\power fans then the following segment on cleanliness. That second segment felt so rehearsed and I’m sure that was canned laughter because there was nothing amusing for the studio audience to be laughing at.

    1. The laugh track (?) was such a strange choice. Didn’t see the 2019 special so I’m not sure if it was used then. It was totally unnecessary.

  4. They aren’t alone … IceTV also listed last nights edition as a Repeat with the description from 2019 as well and that was even after I pointed out to ’em that it wasn’t.

Mind you, I thought the show was a …. load of rubbish, produced on a shoestring budget and it showed. Very disappointing.
