Vale: Phil Lambert

Floor manager best known as "Lucky Phil" from Hey Hey it's Saturday, has died.

Floor manager Phil Lambert, best known as “Lucky Phil” on Hey Hey it’s Saturday, has died.

Nine confirmed he passed away at home over the weekend. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

Lambert was GTV’s longest-serving staff member when he retired in 2019, after 50 years in the camera department and staging, including as floor manager.

During his time at Nine, he worked with some of the biggest names in television, including Graham Kennedy, Bert Newton, Don Lane, Ernie Sigley, Denise Drysdale, Pete Smith, Eddie McGuire, Peter Hitchener and, of course, Daryl Somers.

On Hey Hey it’s Saturday he became known to a generation of viewers as ‘Lucky Phil’ a nickname borrowed from a Victorian drink-driving campaign.

  1. That is so sad I saw Phil many times doing his job when I was in the audience for channel 9 shows like Hey Hey. He was awesome, it’s unfortunate that his passing was missed in amongst the others this week. Thank goodness for TV Tonight. RIP Lucky Phil.

  2. I chatted to Phil prior to Carols by Candlelight broadcast in the 1980s. He was operating a camera that night.
Very sorry to hear of his passing
