Wakefield to screen in USA

Jungle Entertainment sells their fourth title to the USA as Wakefield heads to Showtime.

In a major coup for Aussie drama Wakefield, it is set to screen in the USA on Showtime.

The Jungle Entertainment drama starring Rudi Dharmalingam, which screened earlier this year on ABC, follows from Mr. Inbetween, No Activity and The Moodys selling stateside.

Wakefield creator Kristen Dunphy said, “The challenge was to tackle the really personal and difficult subject of mental health and make an entertaining series. To see it resonate so well with Australian audiences is fantastic – and Americans are at least as mad as us – so I’m thrilled Showtime is bringing it to the U.S. I hope this helps to reassure people that none of us are completely sane and it’s ok not to be okay. ”

Jason Burrows, CEO, Jungle Entertainment and executive producer added, “From the very early days, we talked about Showtime being a natural home for the series so we were very excited when we heard that they loved it. We’re really proud of it and it’s so great to see more and more Australian content being seen on the best platforms around the world.”

Wakefield is a fascinating journey into the mind of a man tasked with worrying about everyone else’s minds,” said Jana Winograde, President of Entertainment. “We are excited to bring Rudi Dharmalingam, who gives such an engaging and heartbreaking performance, and his wonderful co-stars to Showtime viewers. With humor, tenderness and suspense, Wakefield travels right to the heart of what it means to be alive – truly alive – in this complicated and extraordinary world.”
