Vale: Francis ‘Frankie’ Mossman

NZ-born actor best known for Shortland Street, Spartacus: Vengeance & web series The Horizon, has died.

Actor Francis ‘Frankie’ Mossman, best known for Shortland Street, Spartacus: Vengeance and web series The Horizon, has died aged 33.

The NZ-born actor was a member of the Sydney LGBTQI+ community many of whom expressed their sympathies on social media.

Mossman appeared in the New Zealand kids’ series Amazing Extraordinary Friends, soap Shortland Street and in three episodes of Spartacus: Vengeance.

He starred as Stevie Hughes in queer web series The Horizon and featured in the Australian feature film Ruben Guthrie.

Neighbours actor Takaya Honda said, “RIP mate, I’ll never forget running lines with you on the plane,” Honda wrote. “I wouldn’t be where I am if you hadn’t introduced yourself at the airport that day. You were such a beautiful and kind soul. I hope you have found your peace bro.”

He hosted events at Stonewall Hotel with Glenn Hansen, Stonewall Hotel’s Commercial and Marketing Manager telling Star Observer, “Francis was beautiful person and will always be remembered as a part of the Stonewall family. He was well liked by everyone and his smile could light up a room. We will all miss Francis and we would urge everyone to reach out to each other in these tough circumstances.”

Queer Screen said in a statement, “Queer Screen was saddened to hear of the passing of actor, Frankie Mossman. Moving from Auckland to Sydney in 2012, Frankie was a well known member of our LGBTIQ+ community, appearing in numerous NZ and Australian productions including the Sydney made gay web series, The Horizon. Frankie was a great friend of Queer Screen, starring in our MGFF16 trailer and was always an enthusiastic audience member at our festivals. Our sincere condolences to all his friends and family. May he Rest In Peace.”

“Shine bright … saddened by the sudden passing of Frankie, who I was fortunate to work with and befriend for a number of years on @thehorizonseries while he portrayed Stevie,’ former co-star, actor Patrick James wrote on Instagram. “You had a real talent of lighting up the room wherever you went. While your love for Hanson was debatable, your infectious smile was loveable. Gone way too soon. My condolences to friends and family. RIP Francis Mossman.
