SBS: US Open 2021

SBS screens men’s and women’s singles quarter-finals, semi-finals and both finals Live from Flushing Meadows.

Next week SBS will broadcast all US Open 2021 men’s and women’s singles quarter-finals, semi-finals and both finals Live and in HD, and live streamed via SBS On Demand from September 8-13.

Will Aussie world number 1, Ash Barty add to her Wimbledon crown? Will Novak Djokovic complete a historic calendar grand slam? Will Nick Kyrgios make a run at Flushing Meadows?

  1. This contract with ESPN and SBS finishes this year so we’ll see if Nine/Stan picks it up. I would say only if the price is cheap enough. No word on any extension or change….

  2. I am not sure Nine will pick up US events because of the bad time zone. If they wanted to they probably would have done it already. NIne should pick up IPL and Australia’s cricket tours of England and India. Better time zones. In terms of US open I may watch this.

    1. The timezone is an asset for Stan as they will offer streaming of matches at any time. Though the major games are often in the morning Australian time, which is why SBS buys them.

Kudos to the SBS but considering Nine / Stan Sports recent foray into championship tennis the US Open 2021 would have been a good follow up for their new sports streaming service, Stan Sports needs all the promotion it can get especially when team sports are constantly being effected by COVID lockdowns. Maybe next year.
