“Sorry, we let so many people down”

Block contestant Tanya says sorry, noting: "the humiliation on national television" as the biggest punishment of all.

Former Block contestant Tanya Guccione has taken to social media to express her regret in the show’s infamous “Cheating scandal.”

Being in the centre of a national TV scandal is never easy.

Trying to navigate your real life in the midst of a social media pile-on, at the same time as a show loving the boost from controversy, is a myriad of emotions.

On Instagram she said, “I have regrets and so much that I could say about this season but all I really want to say is sorry, we let so many people down. I did say more on my apology but that was not shown so I want to say it here and now again! The humiliation on national television is, I can assure you, the biggest punishment of all! My children, family and friends are still so proud of our efforts and I’m so grateful to everyone who has supported us and continue to care for us on this journey. There have been many dark days, tears, feeling helpless. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. I’m yet to get to the stronger part but we will get there in time.”

Block winners Mitch & Mark have also had a change of heart.

On Instagram Mitch said, “She made a mistake. Have you ever made a mistake & tried to cover it up, it gained momentum and before you knew, there was no way out, you’d dug such a big hole you couldn’t see any way out – image doing this on the biggest show on Australian television … This is what happened to Tanya, we know her, she’s good, but she stuffed up, we have too made mistakes, you all saw me with my inside head thoughts that I blurted out.

“If you’ve ever made errors in judgment in your life that has embarrassed you, please consider what Tanya has gone thru (sic) and is dealing with before you judge her, she deserves a chance – we know this is difficult and we’ve had time to talk with Tanya and support her to move forward, please join us and give Tanya a chance, we all deserve it.”

  1. Tanya is a liar and a cheater and was not fairly punished enough. To only lose two points on that week was ridiculous punishment. I feel so sorry for Ronnie and Georgia coming last while the cheaters got more. So unfair. I love the Block, but this cheating scandal not so much and especially the lack of punishment. Tanya and Vito should have been disqualified or at the very least all money and points won up until that week taken away, josh and Luke should also have gotten more of a punishment not as much as Tanya.
Anyway, looking forward to the tree change next year.

  2. Whilst people say “get back to the renovating” I disagree this season. This year started with 500k viewers. Post cheating it was a mil a night. This was the first Block I actually watched the weekday episodes. Usually the Sunday reveal was enough for me. Something about the car crash that was Tanya, Vito, Luke & Josh was amazing to watch.

Couldn’t stand MAFS because it is manufactured drama – whereas the drama on the block was deep down genuine hatred for each other. It was gold!

    1. It was not minor. It threw out most of the production schedule which had to be hastily rescheduled. A major, major impact during 10 weeks of construction. Then 10 week of lies and getting Mitch and Mark’s builder Jason in the crossfire.

  3. I do feel for Tanya ans glad some
Of the other contestants (albeit, the winners who walked away with a truck load more than everyone else) are coming to her defence.

The most important thing, is that I simply hope the welfare team are doing their job, post production, to support Tanya, Vito snd their family.

  4. Firstly I’ll fess up and admit that until this year and because of all the cheating drama I had never watched The Block before… I do feel sorry for Tanya, that hole just kept getting deeper for her but i think it could’ve been handled a lot better by the producers of The Block but then they wanted to milk it, and milk it they did, and it worked which is why I started to watch it…
So Tanya I never enjoyed watching you get torn apart…

    1. I think the producers did exactly what they needed to do. You get given a gift like this you milk it for all it’s worth…. No one made her lie…. Tanya just kept lying and lying and lying…. The lie got too big and she couldn’t remember the original lie anymore. She even made fake screenshots of text conversations to back up her lies and then even stuffed that up.

While I agree there is no need to stack on now as the show is over…. It was always within her ability to come clean while the show was filming… “her truth” clearly doesn’t mean much.

  5. I started watching this year for the basement build but the cheating scandal kept me going. The Block milked it for all it was worth culminating in the big reveal on the final show. It was great TV. Tanya and Vito will go down as the biggest Villains this show has seen.
