Stan has announced it has extended its exclusive content partnership with MGM – which has deep library of iconic films.

The deal will see a slate of first-run series, including Billy the Kid, The Box, The Reunion, feature films House of Gucci, Licorice Pizza, Respect, The Addams Family 2 and in 2023, No Time To Die.

Acting Stan CEO Martin Kugeler said: “MGM is one of the world’s most instantly recognisable Hollywood studios, its iconic film and television content is celebrated around the world. We look forward to continuing our partnership with MGM – and further building on Stan’s local leadership position in market with more first-run exclusive series and blockbuster films to complement our unrivalled lineup of Australian made originals.”

MGM President, Worldwide Television Distribution & Acquisitions, Chris Ottinger said: “We are thrilled to continue our longstanding relationship with Stan through this robust content partnership, and look forward to sharing an incredible lineup of MGM films and series with even more audiences around the world.”

Stan recently signed new content agreements with NBCUniversal, Lionsgate and WarnerMedia.

New and exclusive first-run MGM series featured in the agreement and coming soon to Stan include: Billy the Kid, an epic romantic-adventure series based on the famous American outlaw and written by Michael Hirst (Vikings, The Tudors) for MGM’s premium U.S. cable network Epix; The Box, a supernatural psychological thriller starring Anna Friel (The Girlfriend Experience), from Shades of Blue creator Adi Hasak and directed by Steve Shill (The Wire) and John Brisinger (Suddenly); and the French-Riviera-set series The Reunion, based on Guillaume Musso’s best-selling novel and starring Ioan Gruffudd (Liar, Harrow), Ivanna Sakhno (Pacific Rim Uprising) and Grégory Fitoussi (Spiral), with Bill Eagles (Beautiful Creatures, 12 Monkeys) set to direct.

In addition, an extensive new slate of major Hollywood blockbusters will become available to stream on Stan in 2023, including director Ridley’s Scott’s acclaimed drama House of Gucci, starring Lady Gaga, Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Jeremy Irons, Jack Huston, Salma Hayek and Al Pacino; Paul Thomas Anderson’s newly released coming-of-age comedy-drama Licorice Pizza, starring Alana Haim, Cooper Hoffman, Sean Penn, Tom Waits, Bradley Cooper and Benny Safdie; the celebrated biographical musical drama Respect, starring Jennifer Hudson as the legendary Aretha Franklin; and the upcoming animated family comedy The Addams Family 2, starring Oscar Isaac and Charlize Theron.

As part of the newly extended partnership, the famed James Bond franchise is now available to stream on Stan – with the most recent film, No Time To Die, starring Daniel Craig in his final performance as Bond, coming to the platform in 2023.

  1. That’s a long time time to wait for streaming rights in this day and age. Wonder if MGM is trying to recoup money from losses in the theatrical run.
