In 2022 NITV marks 10 years on the SBS network with its first drama series, True Colours, commissioned with SBS. New titles include Off Country, Barrumbi Kids, Our Law (series), and The First Inventors, also due in 2021 as a10 co-production, arrives.

SBS Director of Indigenous Content, Tanya Denning-Orman, said: “First Nations storytelling will be loud and proud across SBS channels and platforms in 2022, a year that will see us mark a decade of NITV being available free-to-air as part of the SBS network. With NITV at its heart, SBS is bringing more First Nations voices and perspectives to all Australians with programs celebrating culture and Country, sharing knowledges, and acknowledging truths.”

On SBS VICELAND are Richard Ayoade’s new Question Team plus Ice Cowboys, Ransom and more Atlanta, The Orville, Fear the Walking Dead.

On SBS Food are new titles Dishing It Up, The Streets with Dan Hong, Guillaume In Paris plus another 200 episodes of The Cook Up with Adam Liaw.

World Movies has new titles including Holding The Man, Destroyer, Jackie, The Seagull.

True Colours

Detective Toni Alma is assigned to investigate a suspicious car accident in Perdar Theendar, the Aboriginal community she left as a child and has had little to do with over the years. The beauty of Aboriginal art and the sometimes-devious practices in the global art market take Detective Toni Alma on a hunt for a killer. This is a murder mystery like no other, exploring culture, community, family and one woman’s pursuit to find her place within it. The series came from an original concept by Arrernte singer-songwriter Warren H. Williams and co-creator, writer and director Erica Glynn. Williams stars alongside Rarriwuy Hick (Redfern Now, Cleverman), Luke Arnold (Never Tear Us Apart, Black Sails), Errol Shand (Mystery Road, Rake), Emilie de Ravin (Remember Me, Lost), Trisha Morton Thomas (Total Control), Ben Oxenbould (Mr InBetween, Mystery Road) and Miranda Otto (The Unusual Suspects, The Lord of the Rings). Off Country follows the lives of seven Indigenous students over a year as they leave home and become boarders at one of the most elite schools in the country, Geelong Grammar School. Kindred

Blackfellas Who Can’t Dance:
A comedy-drama from writer/director Enoch Mailangi (All My Friends Are Racist) and producer Majhid Heath (Dark Place). This story follows Nathan, who falls in love at a gym but soon finds his love interest is fundamentally different, and the two dance around their desires. Finding Jedda:
Finding Jedda, which follows two girls who go head-to-head for the role of a lifetime, in a reimagining of the 1954 auditions for the iconic Australian film Jedda. Writer/director Tanith Glynn-Maloney (Robbie Hood) teams up with executive producers Dan Lake and Meg O’Connell (Retrograde). Mudskipper:
Martha, a Torres Strait Islander woman, works tirelessly in a laundromat loading machines and folding washing, ready for the collection of her boss. When a mysterious visitor arrives, Martha is reminded of the life she has left behind. The creative team features writer/director John Harvey (Water), writer Walter Waia and producer Gillian Moody (Ties That Bind). Mudskipper is a Brown Cab Productions production for NITV. Shiny One:
A comedy from writer/director Viviana Petyarre (Utopia Generations), producer Tanith Glynn-Maloney (Robbie Hood) and executive producers Dan Lake and Meg O’Connell (Retrograde). The film centres on a youngfella named Wenye, who leaves his remote community to pursue a dream vision calling him to the big smoke to find his pot of gold. The Lost Crystal of Jessica’s Room:
From writer/director Gary Hamaguchi and producer Jodie Bell, who previously collaborated on Saving Seagrass. The film follows two children who play a game where they use a treasure map to find a crystal in their backyard, but the crystal is not what is seems. The Lost Crystal of Jessica’s Room is a Ramu Productions production for NITV. This project is also supported by Screenwest. Barrumbi Kids

Keeping Hope

Mark Coles Smith is at the beginning of a difficult personal journey. He has been haunted by unanswered questions regarding the suicide of his best friend in the Kimberly ten years ago. In 2022, our dedicated team of NITV journalists across the country will continue to deliver breaking news, cover the big stories and explore the issues that matter most to our communities. NITV’s flagship current affairs program The Point is back with NITV’s John Paul Janke and Network 10’s Narelda Jacobs, joined by key commentators and high-profile personalities each week to discuss the stories you need to know through a unique Indigenous perspective. Karla Grant returns for another season of Living Black, where she sits down with inspiring and influential people to delve into issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, bringing personal insight to extraordinary stories. Veteran journalist Natalie Ahmat and our team of First Nations journalists are back on screens seven days a week in 2022 with daily editions of NITV News and Friday national wrap program Nula.

Sport

Championing young, diverse players and perspectives, Yokayi Footy returns. to NITV in March. Viewers will get their footy fix, be treated to player interviews, and enjoy moving community stories as football and Indigenous culture intersect. Over the Black Dot also returns in March, with an all-Indigenous panel covering NRL highlights alongside special guests, championing Indigenous achievements and having some laughs along the way. After the 50th anniversary of the Koori Knockout was postponed to 2021, the tournament will return to its home on NITV, live in October.

Ice Cowboys

A fast-paced, character driven documentary series that takes you into the frozen wilderness of Alaska, giving you an intimate look at the lives and struggles of the most legendary sled dog racers in the world. Stacey Dooley: Stopping Stalkers

In this investigative series, Stacey embeds herself within specialist police and victim support stalking units – each dedicated to stopping stalking from escalating into life changing violence, or even murder. Spending time with both victims and perpetrators, the series uncovers stark details of lives consumed by stalking, and how staff struggle with bringing offenders under control without escalating the danger. Exploring ex-partner stalking – the most common type of stalking behaviour, Stacey discovers that even when victims think stalking is over, it often isn’t! When looking at stranger stalking like obsessed fans or colleagues, the question remains on how to stop stalking long term, and what works better, prison or therapy. Stacey finds out there are no one size fits all answers when it comes to stalking, but with incidents doubling, often resulting in life changing injury – there is no doubt that stalking is becoming an increased problem.

A comedy show hosted by audience favourite Richard Ayoade. Question Team sets out to re-write the panel show rulebook by making its players set the questions. In every episode, Richard invites three comedians to join his Question Team. In a brazen act of indolence, Richard is outsourcing the lion’s share of the preparation to his guests by demanding they each bring a unique round of questions, inspired by their own interests for him and the others to play. Richard’s sole stipulation is that their questions have proper answers, otherwise what goes down during their game is entirely up to them.
