Returning: Smother

Season 2 of Irish thriller Smother has its Australian premiere tonight on ABC.

With the family still picking up the pieces after the death of Denis, a stranger turns up on Val’s doorstep claiming to be Denis’ estranged son, Finn. Presented with this unwelcome guest, the Aherns soon realize their ordeal is far from over.

The series stars Dervla Kirwan, Gemma-Leah Devereux, Niamh Walsh, James O’Donoghue, Dean Fagan.

This screened internationally in January -a third season has also been renewed.

The return of the intense investigative thriller about the secrets that families keep from each other and which, once shared, can tear them apart forever.

Blood runs deep, but secrets run deeper. Val (Dervla Kirwan) thinks she is safe. Someone else has taken the blame for the murder of her husband, Denis. But a knock at the door sends shockwaves through the family. Standing before them is Denis’s secret son, Finn (Dean Fagan), who until now they never knew existed. A dangerous enemy lurks in the shadows. Will all the truths that Val has fought so hard to hide finally be revealed?

Set amid the breathtaking wild coast of County Clare in Ireland, this is a story about the damage that corrosive secrets can do to a family, and about how bad decisions can come back to haunt us. Alliances are formed and broken. Long-buried resentments bubble under the surface. A careless remark or thoughtless gesture can suddenly turn deceptively calm seas into a tsunami.
