Sydney Harbour lit up last night with images of Star Trek, Halo, Paw Patrol and NCIS: Sydney as part of a spectacular drone show by Paramount+
There were 600 strong drones, a record for the southern hemisphere as part of the Vivid festival.
The event was a year in the planning with co-operation from local harbour, police and aviation authorities.

The display was sensational, especially the first sighting of the starship enterprise…the crowd all let out an audible gasp. It was also fun watching a few of the drones go rogue and crash into the harbor below.
Edit: I have just googled and it seems there is an NCIS: Sydney coming. Ohmygosh, I cannot wait.
David, are we saying that Paramount+ has announced an NCIS: Sydney season? Or am I wishing too hard on a star that doesn’t exist?
(and yes, I know that NCIS is an American thing)
Yes.
That was impressive. Did I witness a few drones nose dive into the harbour? I can see why the police would not allow any boats anywhere near the display. On a side note many complain about the cost of the New Year’s Eve fireworks. Could we not just employ a company to also put on a display of drones on New Year’s Eve or a combination of both…weather permitting I’d imagine. As impressive as the fireworks are the last few years it’s just become a bit bland. Just a thought.
Drone shows probably cost more to put on than a fireworks show.
