Prime7 and GWN7 to unite under Seven banner

Former affiliates will come together under one red brand, including news bulletins.

Following Seven’s acquisition of Prime Media Group, regional brands Prime7 and GWN7 will be unified under the Seven brand.

The historic change will be introduced to regional audiences in coming weeks, in time for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games in July.

7NEWS will also become a unified brand across all News services nationally and regionally with all available on 7plus.

Since the acquisition of Prime, Seven has been able to sell advertising across its new-look sales team who service combined metro, regional and digital audiences.

“We now have the potential to reach more than 90% of Australia’s population each month as one integrated company and to give advertisers and agencies easy and seamless access to metro and regional markets,” said James Warburton, SWM Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

“Prime is a great business and is the #1 TV network in regional Australia by a big margin. In the metro markets, Seven has been #1 for 13 of the past 15 years, including this year, while 7plus is the #1 commercial BVOD service nationally.”

  1. In one way it’s sad I live just outside Albury Wodonga and prime is our local station
At the moment I am trying to get win tv transmitter fixed on our local tv transmitter
We used to ring prime and tell them
And they would handle it . And yes people have rung win tv about it but the person on the phone had no idea where the transmitter is
    I’ve been trying for weeks
    To get it fixed

  2. A sad announcement. Coincidentally today “WIN Television Qld Pty Ltd and Prime Television (Southern) Pty Ltd have been found in breach of impartiality rules for news reports about whether regional media is jeopardised by ‘outdated’ media laws. Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) investigations have found both broadcasters in breach of the rules due to a ‘call to action’ to support the ‘Save Our Voices’ campaign advocating for law reform around regional media”. (ACMA Media Release today).

  3. Prime was iconic to so many people. Would love to read a history of it. So many journos who went on to great things at metro capital city stations and international bureaus got their start there. I remember one of the most successful and respected Independent members of parliament, Peter Andren, made his name as a Prime newsreader in country NSW ways before teals were a thing. The possum, brand campaigns like ‘this is where we live’ and songs. It truly is the end of an area of regional broadcasting.

    1. … there are a few people (me included) who could probably write “a history of it” (but won’t!) … but Prime was really the start of the end of regional broadcasting as independent regional and also small metropolitan television stations were gobbled up by entrepreneurs in search of the magic money-making machine … regional television started in the 60s, was hugely successful in the late 70s and early 80s while Prime only came into being in the late 80s … and Peter Andren was around as news editor/reader long before Prime bought CBN 8 Orange and made it part of Prime SNSW …

  4. Interesting.

They should also start rebroadcasting their WA 7 channels via Foxtel also like they do in the eastern states.

Can only add to the eyeballs……

  5. It will be a very sad day with Prime and GWN7 retiring its local brands. They’ve used the 7 logo during its PRG. In Regional WA, I wonder whether they might have two separate news bulletins – one coming from Bunbury and one from TVW7 studios?

  6. After this imparja wi be the only channel in Australia with its own branding on the watermark logo. Remember the days when WIN and NBN had their own watermark logo branding. Now only imparja will be left.

  7. I guess its inevitable when there are no longer local shows made across the regions, however its sad to see the local logos go over the years.
