Airdate: 10 News First: Breakfast

Lachlan Kennedy and Natasha Exelby to front new morning bulletin to help give Studio 10 a better lead-in.

10 will launch a new 10 News First : Breakfast edition from 8 – 8:30am, replacing the first half hour of Studio 10.

Lachlan Kennedy will host from 10’s Sydney Studio on Monday to Wednesday, and Natasha Exelby will host from Melbourne on Thursday and Fridays.

10 News First: Breakfast expands and strengthens 10’s commitment to News across the day. The addition of a morning news bulletin offers viewers a concise, 30-minute news update at the start of their day, and extends 10’s daily news offering,” a 10 spokesperson said.

“From 10 News First: Breakfast at 8am, through to 10 News First at 5pm, and all the news updates in between, 10 has you covered with the latest breaking news and up-to-date reports on local, national, and international stories.”

The numbers should help Studio 10 with a lead-in, which at the moment is a Bold & the Beautiful repeat.

The new bulletin launches on Monday June 27 at 8am.

  1. I don’t know quite what to make of Natasha. Very attractive and smart, but the look on her face, its like an actor doing a send up of a news reader than an actual news reader.

  2. I think channel 10 need to do a complete overhaul of morning block. Their ratings have been a joke in the past 10.5 years and simply they’ve chopped and changed shows.
If I was channel 10, I would go like this:
    6am — The talk
    7am — Judge Jduy (rpt)
    730 — B&B (encore)
    8am— 10 News first – breakfast
    9am — Studio 10
    11:30am 10 News first – Morning

    1. A complete overhaul of their morning block…..as opposed to their day, afternoon, early evening and prime time blocks? They’ve had some well earned success with HYBPA, cheap seats, MCA and gogglebox, but not much else….

  3. Completly underwhelming decision. Doesn’t help a morning line up that is already as good as dead & buried by viewers’ absence & indifference.
IMHO Ten need to put the lot out of their misery now because the S10 show, cast and now with a band-aid morning news tack-on (as well as the network itself) are one of Australian TV’s great jokes of 2022. I can’t believe that the advertorial dollars cover the costs anyway.
So how do you fix it? Where do you start? Is it worth doing anything but run back to back sitcom repeats or CBS back-catalogue?
The only thing I can suggest other than sitcoms is to go hung-ho a pure news format. Erase all trace of S10, its film-flammery & all cast, sparing only Sarah and Angela.
Launch at 0800 or 0900 and go straight unambiguous basic rolling News/Caff (including live Crosses, interviews with commentators etc, CNN / Sky / ABC24 style) until midday, then some news/interview hybrid programming until the soaps & judge Judy etc, then normal programming.

    1. I am no expert, but CBS has access to loads of 30 min sitcoms. Channel 4 in the Uk used to do this for their late morning (everybody loves Raymond and Frazier repeats). I assume it costs next to nothing to air and is a point of difference from the other FTA options….

  4. The only issue I see here is the competition and preferences. Would viewers choose Ten for morning news over the other breakfast news offerings? It certainly wasn’t the case when it came to election coverage. And will it be more popular than Bold & the Beautiful repeats. It would need to be unique or have a point of difference but not so niche. Maybe the focus could be on improving Studio 10 or what is shown in that timeslot as well.

  5. Finally 10 are reacting to the dismal ratings.
Studio 10 had its best ratings when it had a point of difference, a diverse panel, 2 hour length and a smaller and warmer set. Unless changes are also on the way to the show, then I can’t see this daily telethon made on a shoestring budget gaining any eyeballs anytime soon.

  6. Lachlan is a wonderful newsreader. He was terrific when he was read the news in Brisbane but as for Natasha, have 10 forgotten what happened last time when she was let go from Wake Up?

  7. They could have picked a better host for the Sydney Monday to Wednesday one, but I’ll definitely be watching tash, now we just need to bring back ten late news to compete with :the latest 7 news” and “9 news late” and “sbs news late ” and “abc late news”
