  1. The first Tour de France for women was held in 1955 and there were several such races that struggled for sponsorship and TV coverage. The most successful ran 1984 to 2009. In recent years La Course, a 1 or 2 stage race, has been held on Tour de France stages concurrently. Tour de France Femmes is an 8 stage race that will take place following the Tour de France. Tarting with a stage on the Champs-Elysees and finishing on the climb of La Planche de Belles Filles in the Vosges Mountains.
