The Block desperate to meet deadline

"Carpenters, cladding crews, skilled labourers, trade assistants. Wages, casual, subbies, we won’t discriminate," says Nine show.

Things are getting desperate at The Block.

According to the show’s Instagram, “We desperately need help completing the current series of The Block, Tree Change. Carpenters, cladding crews, skilled labourers, trade assistants. Wages, casual, subbies, we won’t discriminate. Immediate start, 5 weeks to go. Location: Gisborne Victoria.”

Julian Cress, The Block‘s executive producer told 9Entertainment, “We’ve got a pretty small team of dedicated builders who’ve been working their guts out for the last couple of months to get to where we are. But we’re just looking ahead at what we need to finish the project, and thought it would go a lot easier if we could source some chippys to get it over the line.”

Construction company Nine in Six is particularly looking for carpenters as cladding is the main project for the last month of the build.

“We’ve been struggling to get labour from the beginning, like everyone. There’s a real shortage of labour in the market, costs have blown out, there’s so much going on that tradespeople are under the pump,” he said.

“We’ve managed to get through to where we are now, but with a month to go it’s crunch time, and we’re hoping we might be able to source a few more chippys to give us a hand.”

This isn’t the first time The Block has faced challenges with the build or filming, but it’s the first time the project has had an issue of this nature.

The series is tipped for August.

  1. Not sure I sympathise with them. Do they realise some people who lost their homes in the floods earlier in the year have been told they might have to wait up to 3 years for their homes to be finished?
