Where are the Tony Awards for 2022?

Show must not go on in Australia this year....

Sorry thespians one and all…

It looks like next Monday’s Tony Awards will not be screened in Australia.

No network on Free to Air or Subscription appears to have the event scheduled next week.

For many years the awards would screen live on Foxtel through Foxtel Arts, Arena, or Bio.

Last year the awards made a rare Free to Air live broadcast on 10 Peach, but a spokesperson confirmed it does not have the rights this year. Nor are they locked in for a Streaming platform, which is frustrating given they will screen on Paramount+ / CBS in the USA.

The ceremony will be held at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City, hosted by Ariana DeBose…. hopefully some highlights will emerge on YouTube?

  1. This is really disappointing news. I love watching The Tony’s and look forward to watching every year. Last year watching Lois Smith winning Best Actress in a Play at age 90 was worth the time invested alone. Now I’ll be stuck scouring YouTube for clips and links. Please bring it back next year

  2. If any readers are interested in lobbying Paramount+ to try and get them to air the show here in Australia here’s a link to their complaints site:

It might be for nothing, or it might pique their interest. You never know…

  3. What a shame, especially after the theatre industry as a whole, took such a big hit during the last 2 years. This would be so easy for 10/CBS/Paramount to program, even as a delayed broadcast on Peach.

  4. I am so bummed about this. It was such a thrill to watch it on FTA last year live and without spoilers. I know it probably didn’t rate well, but this is pretty disappointing for theatre fans!
