Airdate: ABBA vs Queen

UK music special pits pop icons against one another, soon on Seven.

A UK music special will attempt to solve a dilemma for the decades, ABBA vs Queen.

This one features clips and opinion from over the years, while another one to screen soon pits Kylie Minogue vs The Bee Gees.

Of the two great bands of the 70s and early 80s, which one was bigger and better? This programme asks those in the know – pop stars themselves and rock journalists – and showcases some of the greatest tracks and videos by each group.

Contributors include Katy Perry, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Bono, Arlene Phillips, Lulu, Paul Gambaccini, Pete Waterman, Taylor Hawkins, Robin Gibb, Bob Geldof , the cast of ‘Mamma Mia!’, plus most of all, every member of both bands.

7:30pm Tuesday July 19 on Seven.

  1. Was trying to think of some artists to compare – Beatles vs Rolling Stones – they were the two big British bands of the sixties but really there is no point comparing them. The Beatles outsold all commers at that time. Also, although the Beatles toured, their concerts were pointless because of all the screaming.

    Beach Boys Vs ?

    Elvis Vs Michael Jackson ?

    ELO Vs ?

They could make some interesting and informative shows.

  2. Kylie vs The Bee Gees??!!??
That doesn’t make sense, but Kylie vs Madonna would be much better & will certainly get fans tuning in!

    1. Funny, similar thoughts here. Screams filler TV
Better suited to a multi channel.
But I note they are filled with a lot of repetition from predominantly overseas and some Aussie content.

      1. Remarkably, I found that the show provided a lot of interesting information rather than the usual celebrity puff comment it had music industry people and jurnalist.

One thing that did surprise me was the fact that ABBA has made over 4 Billion dollars from the musicals, which is more that all their records sales income.

    2. I thought the same but recorded it anyway. Surprisingly there was a lot of interesting information about both groups, and good live performance footage of Queen that I’d not previously seen. Instead of celebrity commentators they used a few music industry people and jurnalist, which provided fair and credible comments and information (mostly).

All that said, I don’t hold out much hope for the next episode – Kylie vs The Bee Gees.
