Highly imaginative series The Sandman, based on the comic series written by Neil Gaiman, will premiere on Netflix next week.

The 10 part series developed and executive produced by Gaiman, showrunner Allan Heinberg, and David S. Goyer stars Boyd Holbrook, Patton Oswalt, Vivienne Acheampong, Gwendoline Christie, Charles Dance, Jenna Coleman, David Thewlis, Stephen Fry, plus Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Mason Alexander Park, Donna Preston, Vanesu Samunyai (formerly known as “Kyo Ra”), John Cameron Mitchell, Asim Chaudhry, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Joely Richardson, Niamh Walsh, Sandra James-Young and Razane Jammal.

There is another world that waits for all of us when we close our eyes and sleep — a place called the Dreaming, where The Sandman, Master of Dreams (Tom Sturridge), gives shape to all of our deepest fears and fantasies. But when Dream is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for a century, his absence sets off a series of events that will change both the dreaming and waking worlds forever. To restore order, Dream must journey across different worlds and timelines to mend the mistakes he’s made during his vast existence, revisiting old friends and foes, and meeting new entities — both cosmic and human — along the way.

Friday August 5 on Netflix.

  1. Agree, the involvement of DSG is a huge plus for me too. Yes he’s probably best known for partnering Chris Nolan on the Dark Knight trilogy, but he’s also been involved in other DC IP movies and TV, the Blade films and the Call of Duty games. Excited.

  2. Sandman should be interesting because of the involvement of David S. Goyer best known for his Batman films directed by Christopher Nolan, Sandman looks to be another ambitious and expensive effort, this time using Netflix’s money. Goyer definitely has a list of ambitious film projects he wanted to make but are on hold or in limbo, but if this Sandman series proves successful anything may be possible in the future.
