Julie Goodwin eliminated from MasterChef Australia

It was a big shake-up to the Finals as MasterChef's inaugural winner was sent home.

MasterChef‘s inaugural winner and household name Julie Goodwin has left the kitchen.

The fan favourite and series’ own ‘mother hen’ was eliminated in a cook-off in Tasmania.

Across a four course service challenge, contestants were required to showcase either whisky or gin in a dish.

But Julie’s dessert cake was burnt, leaving judges Jock, Melissa and Andy to sadly send her home from the Fans & Favourites’ Top 5.

“I’ve had the most incredible time,” said Julie. “Yeah, it was a big decision to come back. I’ll never regret saying yes to that. We talk about the MasterChef family and I was there in the first generation of this family. It feels kind of appropriate to be handing over to a new generation. I feel really proud to be able to do that. I’m not disappointed by that whatsoever. It feels right. And I think just for myself, I can finally be at peace with the idea that the first time around wasn’t a mistake. I made it to the top five this time so it can’t have been a mistake.

“It has shaped my whole life. It has shaped everything that I do. It has shaped all of my family’s experiences growing, up and I couldn’t be more grateful to MasterChef. It’s a huge part of my life.”

Her departure now throws open the field between the four remaining contestants: Sarah Todd, Keyma Vasquez Montero, Daniel Lamble and S7 winner, Billie McKay.

The finale is locked onto next Tuesday night on 10.

  1. So Daniel completely stuffs up his fish & cooks something else completely different & stays. There was a time when if you served up something different to what was on their written menu or left anything off no matter how good it was you would go home or lose. We saw Julie cutting out the burnt bits which were only on the outside so how did the judges all get the burnt ones? Not happy.
