Nelson Aspen quits Sunrise

New York-based showbiz correspondent Nelson Aspen has quit Sunrise.
“After 19 and a half years, I am giving you my two-week notice. I don’t want it to be too much of a surprise.
“I’m going to go finish up my new book which will be coming out in September…. Your Home is Your Castle: Live Like an A-Lister in a Post-Pandemic World,” he said.
“Then I’ll be doing a book tour then a new concert, a Q+A show similar to the ones that I did at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Sydney Opera House ……that will include Australian cities.”
In 2013 Aspen told TV Tonight, he was able to secure interviews because publicists knew he’d been knocking around for 20 years.
“I’m trusted, I’m not going to sabotage anybody. They know they’re going to get a fair, fun interview. So it makes my job so much easier. And the stars themselves know that because they’re prepped ahead of time.
“I will always remember Russell Crowe coming to me in a hotel to introduce himself and saying he is a fan of my work. That’s just crazy. It’s unforgettable stuff to me. But I have many wonderful, unrelated work experiences.”

It’s a pity a job like that exists at all. It’s ‘news reporting’ – it’s the the marketing wing of the entertainment industry, dressed up as ‘news’.
Disagree. Why is showbiz news any less worthy than others? More Australians attend arts events in a single week than Sport.
‘Showbiz’ and arts are not the same thing. ‘Showbiz’ is just about the lives of vapid celebrities.
Arts, showbiz, entertainment, stage and screen -whatever label there’s still room for it in a 2 hour show.
Yes Nelson is still running his marathons. Sad to see Nelson leave, he is definitely one of the better entertainment reports, always respectful to the person he is interviewing.
I have not watched Nelson for a while, so I don’t know if he is still running those marathons, but he does seem to be getting younger looking at this photo of him. Nelson definitely is one of the better entertainment influencers if you like that sort of thing, but I imagine it’s not always a pleasant media occupation dealing with uptight celebrities.
