Reggie Bird wins Big Brother 2022

Reality TV favourite Reggie Bird becomes the only person to win Big Brother twice in Australia, taking out the $250,000 prize.

Reggie Bird has won Big Brother 2022 and taken out the $250,000 prize.

Describing herself as a “down to earth Aussie battler,” she becomes the only person to win the Australian series twice, having spent a total of 148 days in the house.

Reggie defeated Super Fan Johnson Ashak and Challenge Beast Taras Hrubyj-Piper in a Live finale at the Hordern Pavilion -the first full house Seven has been able to stage due to the pandemic.

“I can’t believe this. Thank you to everyone who voted for me,” she said.

Joined onstage by her kids Mia and Lucas,  the mother of two said: “I’m gonna use that money to put a roof over our heads.”

But the night was not without some controversy with Josh Goudswaard giving a disingenuous reply to a question from host Sonia Kruger about hooking up with former flame, Sam, in the house.

“Y’all approached me to make some great TV. I did that. But I said ‘Not unless you put her in there.’ And actually I was looking after my friend dying of cancer. I was like, ‘I don’t want to do this show. Aren’t all these Big Brother has beens, has beens?’ Evidently not!”

Reggie’s win wraps up a sentimental season for the show’s 21st birthday, produced by Endemol Shine Australia.

  1. I enjoyed this season (except for the Survivor challenges). It was a great mix of housemates and nostalgic seeing the OGs back, oh and seeing Reggie make history! I hope they bring it back in its original form though. Congratulations Reggie, you earned it!

  2. I hope it’s back, but they really need to make it more like the TEN or Nine format. Make it live, focus more on life in the house. Not just competitions and nominations.

  3. I cried when Reggie the true Aussie Battler won last night. Loved that even though she never had a hope in hell of winning those ridiculous challenges she kept fronting up and having a go without complaining or asking for special treatment. The producers really need to re think how much emphasis they place on those challenges, maybe ditch it all together, as it gets boring real quick with the same able bodied sporty types winning repeatedly. Would much rather more time was spent showing us the housemates personalities and how they interact. I guess this comes down to cost though. Rather than have to employ producers to monitor the housemates for 24 hours for story lines and assemble packages of interesting and funny things they do, all they have to do is run a 2 hour sporting event each day and assemble highlights from that to make the show. Well done Reggie for proving viewers don’t give a crap how good you are at sports.

    1. Not disagreeing with anything you’ve said…. although Seven said, “Reggie won one group challenge, was nominated twice for eviction and received a second chance in Big Brother’s Secret Arcade.” Don’t recall which challenge!

      1. Off the top of my head I can only recall her doing better than the others once in a shopping budget challenge where they had to shield balls being directly fired at them. Big Brother set a secret challenge for other housemates to sabotage the challenge and miss the balls, hence I’m assuming with the balls being more accurately fired at Reggie, she won the most hits. Of course we can’t accuse the producers of rigging it haha

    2. Agree about the challenges, they definitely favor the fit and sporty types and they need to re-jig that part of the format. They could change things up here and there with mental challenges. Could be things like quizzes, which focus on personal questions about the contestants to see who knows the most about each other. We’d also learn more about them. It could also include general knowledge quizzes, spelling bees, Sudoku, jigsaw puzzles etc.

  4. Poor Taras was stuck between a rock and a hard place. He was going to lose if he evicted Reggie because she was so well liked and he lost because he kept her. Very happy for Reggie. Guess I won’t be seeing her on the humble bus for awhile lol

  5. Like most i’m also very happy Reggie won and wish her all the best for the future. I know a lot of people don’t like the new format, but i’m someone who does and watched all episodes. However, I think they made a mistake mixing previous and new housemates. It created two issues, the first was the divide between the two groups and the second was it exposed how uninteresting most of the new participants were compared to the returning housemates. To be fair, the new housemates were up against some of the most interesting housemates from the past. Casting seems to be heavily focused on being young, outgoing and attractive and I think that often comes at the expense of interesting personalities. Casting has become very ‘cookie cutter’. When you look at the returning housemates, how interesting is it observing people like Trevor, Tim and Reggie, all past winners. I’d like to see more people like them on the show. I’d also suggest make it either all new housemates, or all…

    1. I totally agree Shiraz – All the OGs were far more interesting in terms of personality than the newbies. There’s obviously an issue with casting when this is the case. Look at US Survivor – they keep coming up with interesting contestants because they focus on personality not necessarily looks or athletic ability. I heard Tim interviewed today and he said he did what he could to make an entertaining show – see, he knows it’s a game and all his years on radio have made him know how to create good content.

      1. Agree, US Survivor is the benchmark. They continually come up with great casting, with the odd poor season. Yes Tim knew how to keep it interesting, but he needed more help.

  6. What a win!!! so happy for Reggie. She was my favourite from the start and so glad she took it out in the end. It was a much better season than VIP but what i will say is i wish it was OG only. It will be interesting to see if it comes back. I hope it does and they make a few changes too. Like better games etc. Seven could really take a leaf out of BBCanada with that. Some of the games they play are much easier than these physical challenges which need to be rid of for the most part. Change nomination talk too. Bring back the old rules for a season. Thats what i wish they did this year but we will see…I would love live streams and uncut to return too next year but i don’t see it happening.

  7. Reggie was alays going to win if she got to final three as people’s favourite!
Show needs to go back to old format of nominations- 2 points and 1 point with no discussion allowed! Do it live as they used to!!!
Allowing 1 person -to do last few nominations absolutely ruined show!!
Producers wrecked show by allowing people who had massive votes against them to retun. Obvious they were trying to ensure a newbie won! So glad it didn’t work!!!!

  8. So happy to see Reggis win. Don’t normally bother to vote in these things but I did vote for Reggie. I laughed when she said people come up to her in supermarkets. I saw her in Coles the other week & talked to her. She is lovely. I would have liked to have seen the friction between Estelle & Taras addressed & how many people he lied to. So glad he didn’t win.

  9. They need to bring back the live eviction shows next year. I still don’t understand why they don’t use the big brother theme music any more…

  10. I quite enjoyed the live audience and the return of some sort of runway for the cast to enter the stage on.

Sonia seemed a bit wooden at the start but then loosened up a bit after the second segment IMO.

Weird that Brenton didn’t even get one question asked to him considering he just missed coming first on that last challenge and being final three.

Glad Reggie won.. it still baffles me that housemates took her to the end to begin with.

Oh and that response from Josh.. and Dave saying him and Reggie are from Channel Ten day… gotta love live telly…

  11. Some stats:

Reggie is only the 5th person across the BB franchise to win twice

Reggie has the largest gap between appearances (and also wins) of any BB contestant, with a 19 year gap between her first and second season

  12. Congrats Reggie, Australia’s favourite lil Aussie battler, deserved not just for that but for being a really genuinely lovely person who played an honest game.

    1. I’m just going to say it … why are you coming to a tv website knowing they’ll be publishing the results live if you don’t want it ruined? Considering David published today to avoid the website and the twitter to avoid spoilers “ NB: TV Tonight is publishing Live Big Brother results AEST tonight.” *insert facepalm*

    2. Just a heads up for the future – this is a tv website. Once it happens live, then its out in the open.

This site did give warning earlier today that the winner was to be announced here once it happened.

          1. At time of writing this comment, it’s 6.40pm on Thursday and I’ve just finished watching the Big Brother and MasterChef finales back to back. Knowing I wouldn’t be able to catch up until today, I’ve successfully avoided TVT / e-mails and been careful of scrolling through Facebook to avoid spoilers.
But I usually check TVT twice a day so I’ve missed it and now need to catch up on the site. But it’s just part of the ritual for major shows and love it.

    1. Tim has stated on his podcast that the show is coming backing and is likely to involve old BB housemates again. They are currently in the middle of doing minor renovations on the house. He also alluded that he will be involved again in some capacity, possibly in a BB after show like they had with Love Island last season.

      1. This is the one thing I think the new format is missing. I’d love to see a show similar to Mike Goldman’s Uplate in the Network 10 era. It can be one hour, and screen on 7mate/7flix at around 10pm. Rather than focusing on the competition, be more like what the daily show was focusing on the every day activities and conversations with the house mate.

      1. They put in another DA for the White Pavilion in May which is under consideration, so yes anther season is expected to be taped, probably October-December, same as this season was.
