Netflix has released a teaser for its upcoming reboot, Heartbreak High.
A discovery makes Amerie an instant pariah at Hartley High, and causes a mysterious and very public rift with her ride-or-die Harper. With her new friends – outsiders Quinni and Darren – Amerie must repair her reputation, while navigating love, sex, and heartbreak.
Heartbreak High is a reimagining of the 90s Australian YA series which ran for seven seasons and was broadcast in over 70 countries including the UK, US, Germany, Argentina, Mexico, India, Netherlands and Indonesia.
Wednesday September 14 on Netflix.

This looks very American. I can’t see it going well.
Besides the ridiculous premise, cringey dialogue, old unfunny jokes (tongue punch anyone? That’s so 1990s!), overtly in your face stereotypes, and diversity for diversities sake, this looks like another quality Netflix AU Commission. This will tide the masses over until Byron Baes season 2 comes out!
The biggest thing that stood out to me was how odd it was for them to not be wearing a school uniform. Pretty sure all our public schools have a uniform for students to wear, it’s not free dress like in America.
They don’t wear a school uniform in the original Heartbreak High either.
Netflix has Americanised the show and it’s quite pathetic 🙄
Yikes. Was hoping for British drama edgy, not Poochie the rockin’ dog.
Is any of the streaming services airing the original series?
Netflix already.
Thanks David
This… looks utterly atrocious, and that’s being generous.
The original series was a slice-of-life drama depicting the diverse tapestry of our society, featuring characters of varying ages and socioeconomic/ethnic/religious backgrounds.
The only thing “diverse” about this lot are the dyes in their hair and the fabrics of their barely-there attire.
I question why they even bothered to retain the Heartbreak High branding as I can’t see this resonating with fans of the original (and yes, many of us still like our coming-of-age stories), and I should hate to contemplate that our young would look to this as some sort of aspirational ideal.
