Renewed: House of the Dragon

Lavish prequel has been given a second season, less than a week after its global-busting premiere.

No surprises here, House of the Dragon has been given a second season by HBO, less than a week after its global-busting premiere.

It premiered to 115,000 national primetime viewers plus another 85,000 in an earlier screening and a further 66,000 in a third. Total numbers will climb with Timeshifted and further broadcasts, which Foxtel maintains will amount to its biggest series premiere.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s fantasy novels, House of the Dragon is set some 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones,  and features Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy and Milly Alcock with Ryan Corr yet to debut.

House of the Dragon is Co-Created/Executive Produced by George R.R. Martin. Co-Creator/Co-Showrunner/Executive Producer/Writer, Ryan Condal; Co-Showrunner/Executive Producer/Director, Miguel Sapochnik; Executive Producer/Writer, Sara Hess; Executive Producers, Jocelyn Diaz, Vince Gerardis, Ron Schmidt; Directors Clare Kilner, Geeta V. Patel; Director/Co-Executive Producer, Greg Yaitanes.

  1. I would say that a second season was already in the process of production along with season one, the long lead time to make a big budget show with an abundance of CGI would cost the production company money if there was an extended release date between each new season, anyone who has watched Chaos on the Bridge will see that the TNG showrunners and producers were at regular loggerheads with Paramount’s CEO regarding the number of episodes to be made, as the studio kept an eye on their economic bottom line. I would say House of Dragon would be no different, the producers would need to believe that at least three to four seasons of House of the Dragon will be released to cover their large economic investment.
