Returning: House of the Dragon

Green or Black? Choose a side in June...

A premiere date plus duelling Green and Black trailers have been released for Season Two of House of the Dragon, coming back to Showcase / Binge in June.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood,” the series, set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, tells the story of House Targaryen.

Westeros is on the brink of a bloody civil war with the Green and Black Councils fighting for King Aegon and Queen Rhaenyra, respectively. As each side believes theirs to be the rightful seat on the Iron Throne, the Green and Black trailers reflect those two perspectives in separate yet complementary halves of the same story. Viewers “All Must Choose” their side of House Targaryen as the realm fractures in season two.

Returning cast for the second season includes Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans. Additional returning cast includes Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, and Matthew Needham.

New additions joining season two includes Abubakar Salim as Alyn of Hull, Gayle Rankin as Alys Rivers, Freddie Fox as Ser Gwayne Hightower, Simon Russell Beale as Ser Simon Strong, Clinton Liberty as Addam of Hull, Jamie Kenna as Ser Alfred Broome, Kieran Bew as Hugh, Tom Bennett as Ulf, Tom Taylor as Lord Cregan Stark, and Vincent Regan as Ser Rickard Thorne.

Monday June 17 on Showcase / Binge.

  1. I would not describe myself as a devoted GoT fan, but as far as television shows go GoT was a creative step forward and the casting was brilliant, especially Peter Dinklage who nearly always stole the show, but when GoT reached its final season it felt like the creative edge that put GoT ahead of the competition had passed on, it had become dependent on visual impact to fill in the plot holes, dragging out the finale to a somewhat predictable end, and of course the infamous dark photography caused a lot of consternation for those without UHD TV’s. I would not have missed GoT if the franchise had ended right there but did give the House of the Dradon spin-off a chance. The ‘time jump’ did break the spell however and I struggled to refocus after that, and not even Matt Smith’s malevolence could draw me back into this GoT universe. I will watch season 2 but mostly for what the production offers rather than the story.

  2. Don’t think I’ll worry with season 2 of this, season one wasn’t enthralling especially after the time jump, I forced myself to watch the rest of the episodes but can’t really remember anything from the story now so won’t miss it. A shame as during GOTs time was must watch Monday night viewing.

    1. Oh wow I completely disagree with you. I can’t wait for this to return. The time jump was rather jarring at first yes, but the show deftly navigated that potential pitfall very well and remained compelling to me… right up until a thrilling finale. GoT of course is one of the greatest TV shows ever created, so I believe House of the Dragon wisely does enough to establish its own thing and is different enough not to try and compete with that overarching, grandiose worldly view the mother show had. Can’t wait for more of this story.

      1. You are not alone….I was born a long time from yesterday myself and I love this show too..I have watched repeats of GOT many times..I have read the books and I follow the making etc of the show on YouTube…I am looking forwards to it as well

    2. Completely agree – GoT was event TV and although it did cool off in the last couple of years (though the final season got far more hate than was warranted, partly I think as the source material wasn’t there to justify) I just found House of the Dragon something Game of Thrones never was – boring! Basically retreading the same narrative just with less interesting characters.
