Just ahead of its second season debut, sprawling fantasy epic House of the Dragon has been renewed for a third season.
“George, Ryan, and the rest of our incredible executive producers, cast, and crew, have reached new heights with the phenomenal second season of House of the Dragon,” she said. “We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular season two, with a scope and scale that is only rivaled by its heart. We could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and watch this team burn bright again for season three.”
Based on Martin’s book Fire & Blood, Dragon is set 200 years before the events in Game of Thrones and tells the story of House Targaryen’s devastating civil war.
The season two cast is led by Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Matthew Needham, Sonoya Mizuno, Tom Glynn-Carney, Ewan Mitchell, Harry Collett and Bethany Antonia
It isn’t yet clear how many episodes will comprise a third season.
S2 premieres Monday on Binge and Showcase.

It’s guaranteed there will be a lot of interest in this show especially by the armchair critics on social media. Personally, I think the Game of Thrones saga is becoming a bit like the Walking Dead franchise, which is over exploited and trope ridden.
