Austalian character actor Vince Gil, best known for Mad Max, Stone and Prisoner, has died.

Austalian character actor Vince Gil, best known for Mad Max, Stone and Prisoner, has died, aged 83.

Mad Max co-star Paul Johnstone wrote on Facebook, “Sadly, it is true… Vince Gil has left us. He’s been very frail for quite some time and mercifully no longer needs to be constrained by his mortal form.”

Gil was born in 1939 in Sydney, becoming best known for his portrayal of Crawford Montizano aka Nightrider in 1979’s Mad Max.

He also played the bikie Dr Death in the 1974’s Stone, with other film credits including They’re a Weird Mob, Evil Angels, Mallboy, Terra Nova, BodyMelt, Snapshot, Solo, Ghosts… of the Civil Dead, The Long Lunch, Encounter, Resistance.

Frequently playing villainous roles, he featured in many TV shows including as a bad bikie in Number 96 trying to bed ‘Maggie Cameron’, several roles in Prisoner, plus You Can’t See Round Corners, The Battlers, Matlock Police, Neighbours, A Country Practice, Division 4, Homicide, Ryan, The Box, The Sullivans, The Timeless Land, Bluey, Against the Wind, Chopper Squad, GP, Rush, Kingswood Country, Daily at Dawn, Secret Valley, Cop Shop, Secret Valley, Carson’s Law, The Henderson Kids, Heartbreak High, Nancy Wake and City Homicide.

In recent years he played a character named Toecutter Durham in Foxtel’s Conspiracy 365 and a guest role in The Doctor Blake Mysteries.
