60 Minutes retraces 18-year-old backpacker Théo Hayez’s last known steps in Byron Bay.

In a special edition of 60 Minutes, Tara Brown and former homicide detective Gary Jubelin retrace 18-year-old backpacker Théo Hayez’s last known steps in Byron Bay.

Nightmare in Paradise
In all likelihood Théo Hayez from Belgium is the most well-known backpacker to travel to Australia in a long time. But his fame is for all the wrong reasons. Three years ago, Théo vanished in Byron Bay. His disappearance was completely out of character – one minute he was seen leaving a local bar, the next minute, nothing. Speculation about what might have happened to the young tourist has been intense, but so far an endless number of theories have led nowhere. In a special edition of 60 Minutes, Tara Brown and former homicide detective Gary Jubelin retrace 18-year-old Théo’s last known steps using critical GPS data collected from his mobile phone. Brown also travels to Belgium to meet Théo’s distraught family. Speaking publicly for the first time, Vinciane Delforge makes a heartfelt plea for more information about the baffling disappearance of her beautiful and precious son.

  1. Anything people can do to find a missing person is never a bad thing to investigate, every clue, piece of evidence or footage helps. Showing this however many times I hope his parents and love ones find what has happened and find some peace. Loosing a child especially is something that haunts you for the rest of your life, the older you get the more you have to live with the “what if”s or the “maybe”s and wondering how they would have been when they got older. It’s horrendous.

  2. hmm baffling case for sure but a whole episode was already dedicated to this in Under Investigation Season 2, it will be interesting to see if this really does reveal new information/insights. Part of a 60 Mins episode with other stories would be more appropriate i think.
