Australian Idol: promo

Seven has unveiled its splashy new promo for Idol.

Seven has unveiled its splashy new promo for Australian Idol coming to Seven in 2023, hosted by Idol discovery Ricki-Lee and Scott Tweedie – including with Live performance shows.

With a new breed of Australian artists ready to shine bright, seven aspiring contestants showcase the depth of incredible talent in the upcoming competition, performing Rihanna’s Diamonds in the series’ dazzling launch clip.

Having travelled to every corner of the country, judges Harry Connick Jr, Meghan Trainor, Kyle Sandilands and Amy Shark have left no stone unturned to help unearth the next Australian Idol.

Eight-time ARIA Award-winner Amy is thrilled with the chance to nurture emerging Australian artists: “It’s going to be pretty special to find that diamond in the rough and then see how they progress through the show. Australian Idol has changed the lives of so many artists in the past. I’m so excited to be part of that.”

  1. You know what, Kyle aside, i think the promo is awesome. It got me hyped. I don’t get all the negativity in the comments. MAFS (still don’t get why people watch this crap) will be a challenge for Seven to topple but you know what, MKR was a juggernaut too that everyone thought nothing would beat and look what happened to that? Things change and i know so many who are just as buzzed for the return of idol. Will be interesting to see how it goes.

  2. I know we all have different options on promos and shows but nearly every single comment on this post are negative.
IMO I actually think this was the opposite as I kind of like that promo and what I been reading online some would say this was the best promo 7 has ever done (though I could be wrong).

  3. The Voice decimated The Block on its revival for the first few weeks in its first run back but then dwindled each year after. MAFS is likely to finally get its first kicking for the first couple of weeks but like The Block it come back stronger with format changes in 2024.
I think Aus Idol will do the job Seven wants it to do in 2023 but I’d find a new quarter for it in 2024 and relaunch another brand strongly to deliver a knock out blow to MAFS in quarter 1 2024.

  4. Kyle issues aside, it really irked me that they showcased more success stories from American Idol than from our homegrown iteration, which shows a real lack of confidence in the brand.

Oh, and it’s a good thing they reintroduced the judges at the end of the promo, because I have the memory span of a goldfish with dementia.

    1. Adam Lambert is a much bigger name than, say, Shannon Noll. They could have included Anthony Callea or Ricki-Lee though.

Surprised they included Carrie Underwood though – no idea who she is.

      1. And Kelly Clarkson is the biggest star of them all, but the point is that they’ve demonstrated a lack of confidence in the brand’s legacy by cherry-picking contestants from another country’s version of the format, and also making the same mistake as The Voice (which failed to produced any bona fide stars) by putting the judges in the spotlight (introducing them twice in the above promo).

And Carrie Underwood is a country singer, hence her relative lack of appeal beyond the United States.

  5. I had to laugh when the promo tried to imply artists like Kelly Clarkson and Adam Lambert were found through Australian Idol. I understand they were trying to show the brand as a whole, but still. It felt like a little bit of false advertising to me.

  6. What’s the point of the truck? They haven’t traveled to every corner at all so it’s misleading in that sense. And why so much emphasis on judges? Idol was not Voice and contestants were always front and centre. How hard is it to get some of the worst and some of the best in a teaser clip?

    1. The truck has been transporting the set as the audition tour goes from Brissy to Perth etc. There are also some regional scenes where judges visit singers. There are singers in the first clip but we will doubtless see more as campaign rolls out.
