“Goodnight Western Australia”: Shauna Willis signs off

GWN7 weather presenter farewells viewers after 35 years with the network.

GWN7 weather presenter Shauna Willis farewelled viewers last night after 35 years with the network.

During her three decades she has also been news presenter.

She started out as a receptionist in her hometown of Albany, later moving between script writing, commercial production, producer and presenter for children’s program The Saturday Club to news reporting.

Her first news interview was with French explorer Jacques Cousteau’s son, Jean-Michel, when research vessel RV Calypso sailed into Broome.

“I remember stepping onto this funny little boat thing with shaking hand and holding this bit of paper with my questions for news – it was very exciting,” she said.

In signing off for the final time she said, “I’m going to miss everyone here so much and of course to everyone that I’ve worked with over the years, who I’ve shared the journey with. Awesome. And of course to everyone across Regional WA who’s watched a mostly-correct weather forecast each night. A big thank you for tuning in. As I say it’s been a blast. What a journey.”

She added, “From all of us across the state. Good night Western Australia.”
