Neighbours fans rally for Kate Keltie

Kate Keltie, who played Michelle Scully on Neighbours, is in the fight of her life.

Former Neighbours star Kate Keltie, who played Michelle Scully from 1999 until 2004, was recently diagnosed with stage four breast cancer.

Keltie, 36, was the on-screen sister to Holly Valance and Carla Bonner’s characters.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by friend Ebony Gilbert hopes of raising $25,000 -it is already over $31,000. The funds are pledged to help with rent and living expenses including groceries, bills and cleaning, as well as specialist appointments.

“[Keltie’s] cancer is extremely aggressive and it has spread to other parts of her body, including her lymph nodes, blood and hip bones (known as metastatic cancer),” Gilbert wrote.

“This week, the fight of her life begins as she starts chemotherapy. Given the severity of the chemotherapy that Kate requires, her oncologist advised that working and maintaining her job during this time is not an option.”

Gilbert said Keltie has been told she will not be able to have children in the future.

“This is devastating news for anyone, let alone at the age of 36, with no family history of breast cancer.”

Kate has since thanked donors saying, “Hi everyone. I am so sorry I haven’t had a chance to thank you all personally yet- stay with me, I’ll get there! I just wanted to say thank you, thank you, thank you for all of your support, and messages and phone calls. It’s so amazing to know I have so many incredible people in my corner. I’ve just got over COVID and I start my first round of chemotherapy tomorrow, and you really have no idea how my head space has changed going into it because of each and every one of you. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Kate x”

Keltie appeared in 387 episodes of Neighbours with credits including Halifax f.p., Thunderstone, Blue Heelers and Rush.

Thinking of you at this time, Kate!

  1. Kate was one of those kid actors who didn’t need Neighbours as an on-air training ground, she was a brilliant actor when she turned up.

A generation of ABC arvo TV watching millennials grew up watching her on Thunderstone.

    All the best Kate!
