Oops. Cup coverage goes behind the scenes.

This wayward exchange between Eddie McGuire and Rob Mills was broadcast on international feeds.

Wayward footage of Eddie McGuire talking to Rob Mills and Tara Rushton in a break during Melbourne Cup coverage was inadvertently broadcast on Sky Sports Racing channel in the UK.

The vision was spotted by longtime TVT reader Evan Davis and posted to Twitter.

Thankfully McGuire didn’t say too much that was inappropriate.

“I’m just having a look Ed, and clouds are coming. How long do you give it?” Millsy asked Ed.

“We’ll be right…..if Millsy keeps standing up the sun will shine …we know where the sun shines from,” McGuire replied.

Which has also been fact-checked by the BoM, so all good there.

  1. For a bit of context, Sky Sports Racing UK airs Australian racing overnight most nights using Sky Racing AU’s feed (Grafton races tonight according to the EPG).

It’s quite niche (in the way today’s racing from Southwell would appeal to very few Australian viewers), so would likely attract little, if any, advertiser interest.

But it still fills airtime, so I assume they employ one person overnight to press a button so Australian ads don’t air (we still get the in-broadcast TAB promos) and we get a static card instead.

In last night’s case (receiving 10’s raw feed), it appears as though that person has pressed the button too early.

It’s all just a bit of office-style banter. Nothing too sinister, but not intended for customers (viewers) to hear. It was still interesting to see and hear what goes on during ad breaks.

The tips at the end of the clip came 5th (#1) and 3rd (#9).

    And I’ll take “longtime” 🙂
