Will The Block break records?

The look on Shelley Craft's face says it all at The Block auctions held yesterday.

The look on Shelley Craft’s face says it all as 4 of The Block teams watched on at yesterday’s auction in Gisborne South.

Does that mean a bumper sale for Omar & Oz? All will be revealed tonight.

Producers are now scrambling to post-produce the episode with around 24 hours.

The property market is soft at the moment, with a sizeable drop in property auctions last weekend. But these properties have had months of free publicity and come with 10 acre  (4.04ha) land blocks.

They have  estimated prices at an eye-watering $4m-$4.4m. Will they reachi record Block prices -last year one Hampton home also went for $4.4m.

Last year producer Julian Cress said $4m homes were “aspirational” but agreed “If we were doing homes that were selling for $5m or $6m we would be jumping that shark.”

7pm tonight on Nine.

  1. What people are talking about is the location. Gisborne South is about 50 kilometres from Melbourne CBD. Considering Melbourne traffic and the commute times during peak hour traffic, it’s a big factor in the potential auction bids. They’ve got to get buyers that see any potential.

If it was me, I would’ve considered another location for The Block.

Having said that, the show has advertised it as a tree change, so the potential market could be for work-at-home or retirees. The quality of the nearby schools and amenities would also be a factor. Then there’s also the novelty of buying a house that has some fame from television. It’ll have some historical gravitas.

Nine will be hoping for a good result.

    1. You make good points, and I would add two others: the fact that lovely historic homes have been dwarfed by big black sheds, and also the clear message that even if the rest of Victoria is in sunshine, Gisborne is very cold, very rainy and misty.
